So I ended up oversleeping yesterday and then I got kind of behind on my freelance work. I barely had enough time to squeeze in these two sketches, so there may be some very limited updates in the next few days.

Sharpies are Fun

I ended up trying out drawing with sharpie markers yesterday, and it was actually a lot more fun than I thought it'd be. I've always enjoyed drawing in brush pen, so it makes sense that I would enjoy drawing with markers (it just so happens that my brush pen started running out of ink fairly quickly, so I couldn't use it as often as I would have liked to). But anyway, I did some environment thumbnail sketches yesterday that I'll upload some day.

Yesterday I did Rad's suggestion of doing gesture drawings from cartoons. I did a whole bunch (10 pages actually) from the first five minutes of Aladdin. At this rate, it'll take me quite awhile to finish the whole movie. Luckily I picked one of my favorite Disney movies and one that I've definitely watched one of the most times.

Crazy Dreams

So two nights ago, I had this crazy dream where I was killed, but the thing is... the dream continued on after I died. It was pretty interesting, but a bit scary at the same time. I might end up using this dream as the base for a future story idea. And that is what the piece below is based off of!

This was a really spur of the moment piece. I didn't really plan anything, I just started drawing. And I decided to draw in a new type of style, playing around a lot with line weight. It was a lot of fun to make.

Recap of Father's Day

So yesterday was Father's Day and it was pretty fun. I hung out with my parents a bit more after our picnic, and the overall mood of the day seemed a lot happier.

Speed Painting Process

So I decided to try out Goro Fujita's idea of doing a speed painting a day. He has mentioned before that doing a speed painting a day is the main way that helped him improve, so I figured I'll try it out. I'm not going to be 100% dedicated to it, I'm just going to do them whenever I have some extra free time. I figured it'd be worth a try, especially since he's one of my favorite artists out there.

I did a basic two minute sketch just to lay out the scene before I started.

And finally, the finished product! This took me about 45 minutes.

Also, this is the photograph I used as a reference. I took this photo of The Devil's Punch Bowl, a park near a waterfall in Canada.

Time Management!

So I guess I am still getting just as much free time, I just feel more productive now that I have an actual job that needs to get done and deadlines. Putting my time management skills to use! Basically I'm just eliminating the time-wasting things I do during my day, and I work instead for that time.

I told myself I was going to have Speedvore's final design done by today, but I've been putting it off since I was fairly unsure on how to execute it. Honestly I like the second from the bottom right one, but my brother was set on that top right one (which I personally thought came out terrible). So hopefully at some point this week I will be able to make some more ideas and figure out his final design.
