I Made a Demo Reel

So I'm officially starting into the last week of this semester. It kind of feels like it flew by and I don't really feel ready to leave for now. But anyway, this might be my last blog post before I'm on summer break.

"Animation II Demo Reel"
For my Animation II class, our final was to make a demo reel of all of our projects this year, including the roughs and various stages that it has went through.

"CFD Sketchbook Pages"
Some more additions to my on-going sketchbook project in Commercial Figure Drawing. These are actually my last pages of filling up the sketchbook.

"Pokemon Sketches"
My friends and I have been really in the mood for Pokemon this weekend, so these are some sketches of Pokemon that I did. The first half in pen were all pretty much without references.

Meet Vhan

We've been working on a walk cycle with personality for the past week or so in my Animation II class. This is a refined design of a character that my brother and I created: Vhan.

"Vhan Personality Walk"
I finished my personality walk cycle (my final for Animation II) this weekend.

"Vhan Concept Sketches"
Some concepts that I did for Vhan, as well as the background.

"Background Design"
The background I did to pan behind the walk cycle. This is from a scene in The Nays in which Vhan, as well as a few others, are eating at a fancy restaurant.

"Character Walk Concepts"
These were some sketches I did while trying to figure out which character to go with for my personality walk cycle. As you can see above, I decided to go with Vhan.

"Animation Gestures"
Some gestures that we did of cartoons in Animation II class.

Speedvore Concepting

I've been doing some more concepts for the game I am going to be working on with my brother over the summer. Going through and working on fixing up characters so I can come to a final conclusion at least by the first few weeks of summer. Annd in the meantime, it's nearing the end of the semester and finals are coming to an end!

  "Speedvore Concepts"
Some quick concept sketches that I came up with for Sum 3, Speedvore, and Mira. Still in the process of refining to make final designs.

"CFD Sketchbook Pages"
Some more additions to my on-going sketchbook project in Commercial Figure Drawing.

"Weeklies Shape Characters"
This week at the Weeklies we made up little character designs based off of doodles (based off of the Cup of Doodle blog). I'm not particularly happy with how these turned out, but these were just drawn on an off-drawing day I guess.

"Video Posters"
And here are some posters I came up with for some of my Video projects, using stills from my videos.

The Return of Piko

This week has had its ups and downs, but overall it's been pretty good. My CFD sketches have been improving, which has been making me feel a lot better about myself. So art-wise, things have been going better than usual. And I'm finishing up a bunch of my finals, which means the last few weeks won't be as stressful as usual.

 "Piko Re-Designing"
So I decided to try and figure out a new re-design for one of my characters. I've been struggling to find the right kind of design for him, but I think I'm finally coming to something a little better here. The color palette still isn't completely to my liking, but I'll just keep experimenting until I find something better. I'm still considering changing his name too, because I feel like I could come up with something better, but that's still gonna take some time to come up with as well.

"Animation Walk Studies"
Our next assignment in Animation II is to create a walk cycle with personality, so I did some gestural sketches of people walking to try and get a sense of their personalities through a simple walk.

"Illustration Face and Expression Studies"
Some studies we did for my Illustration class, dealing with value, facial structures, and expressions.

"CFD Sketchbook Pages"
Some more additions to my on-going sketchbook project in Commercial Figure Drawing.

"Weeklies Animal Sketches"
This week we sketched a variety of animals, which was actually pretty fun.

Through the Cave and in the City

So the beginning of this past week was really hectic with scheduling, but for the most part, it seems to have gotten a little bit better. But even so, it's been an awfully busy week with finishing up some digital pieces.

"Multiplane Background Animation"
This is the background that I illustrated, as well as the animation of it above. We're working on a multi-plane background in animation class. So I decided to go with a cave to go along with my blog theme.

 "Invisible"
Here's the value study and color study for my comic book cover for Illustration class, titled 'Invisible.'

 "CFD Sketchbook Pages"
Some more additions to my on-going sketchbook project in Commercial Figure Drawing.

Concepts of Comic Book Me

So it's coming to that point of the year where it's really nice outside, but then there are finals and it's just so hard to stay focused. Plus there's scheduling tonight,  so I'm super stressed about that. Somehow I've been able to sketch a lot nonetheless. Anyway, here's what I've got for this week.

"Self Character Concepts"
These are a bunch of different styles I did of myself in the outfit that I'm pretty that I'm going with. Basically we're making a comic book cover in Illustration class and I am the main character. My favorite one is probably the third one.

"Self Marker Drawings"
Some initial character sketches I did of myself. These are the different outfits that I wear, but I decided to go with the last one to expand on. The one under it is a quick marker doodle that I did to figure out the right colors and feel for my more finished marker drawings above.

"Thumbnail Covers"
Some concept covers I came up with. I'm thinking about going with the one on the second page with the check mark next to it.

"Gesture Poses"
Some gesture drawings I did from comic book pages for my Illustration class.

"Acrylic Guitar Figure"
This is the piece that I did for our final in-class day for my Commercial Figure Drawing class. We were given the opportunity to choose whichever medium we wanted to use, and I decided to go with Acrylics. Ever since the previous class, I have felt a lot more excited to experiment with acrylics and determined to improve and learn how to paint with them well. So this was one more step towards that goal, which I will definitely try to head towards more this summer.

"CFD Sketchbook Pages"
Some more additions to my on-going sketchbook project in Commercial Figure Drawing.

"Pubby Doodles"
Some doodles I did while I was studying after meeting with Sarah, the creative coach whom I went to for some advice.

New Scanner!

So this weekend I got a new scanner. No more of those bad quality images for my traditional work. But anyway, my family was in town this weekend so there wasn't quite as much time for art, but I still managed to squeeze some in. Also this past Friday was the Illustration Round Table at my college, in which a bunch of Illustrators from the industry came in and spoke with that. So I got pretty inspired from that.

"My Little Buddy"
So after drawing a bunch of stingrays over spring break, I really realized how much I liked them. This is a quick piece that I did this weekend. I decided to play around with some textures in Sai.

"Speedvore Character Concepts"
I decided to try and expand on my original character ideas for my game-to-be, Speedvore. So I experimented with drawing some various concepts for the three main characters: Gonavee, Sum3, and Speedvore.

"Documentary Storyboards"
Some really quick storyboards that I did for my final Video I project. It's a documentary about my group of friends.

"Illustration Comic Concepts"
Our next project in my Illustration class is to create a comic book cover with ourselves being the main character. After some brainstorming with my friend Jinny, I decided to go with an idea of a comic in which I am the background character. Thus, titling it "Invisible."

"Acrylic Figure Drawing"
In Commercial Figure Drawing this week, we worked with acrylics. My instructor gave us a demo at the start of class, which really taught me how to use acrylics the correct way. Honestly I never really knew much of how to use them until now, so this is probably my most successful acrylic piece thus far.

"CFD Sketchbook Pages"
Some more additions to my on-going sketchbook project in Commercial Figure Drawing.

"Forensic Pathology"
For my Genetics class, our final was to do a research paper on a type of pathology and create a piece of artwork to go along with it. So this is what I came up with.
