FF7 Excitement!

After all of the FF7 Remake excitement, I made some fanart.

I decided to pick up my replay of FF7 after all of the FF7 Remake excitement, and I finally unlocked Yuffie.

In March, we might get to finally embrace our dreams and protect our honor as SOLDIER. Looking forward to finally getting to play FF7 in HD next year!

Squaresoft Sketches

I've been playing some PS1 Squaresoft games recently.

I drew this for FF8's 20th anniversary in February.

So I beat Parasite Eve a while back and it was a really weird game. It somehow reminded me of a mix between FF7, FF8, and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, so I ended up mostly enjoying it. But Aya is a pretty cool character.

SSB Nays

These are some SSB-related drawings I did about The Nays. From Digicember and just a random one.

Here is the last Digicember drawing I did from last year!

Squidwik always plays as Olimar in SSB, but he's only ever won a fight once.

FF & DBZ Fanart

I don't draw fanart a whole lot, but here's some recent fanart I've drawn!

Back when I beat Type-0, that ending caught me off guard because of how GOOD it was! The whole game's story was fairly mediocre and then Chapter 8 just turned everything around and got really good. The battle system's what kept me playing, but I'm glad I did in the end. I'm slowly beginning to understand l'Cie more (after playing through 4 games with them) so I don't hate the concept as much as I did back when I first tried 13.

I drew King Piccolo for Piccolo Day in May.

Final Fantasy X Sketches

It's been 10 years since I originally beat Final Fantasy X, so I bought the remastered version on PC and have been playing through that for the past week or so. Last night I beat it, and I can say that I honestly enjoyed this playthrough even more than I did originally 10 years ago. It ended up being way better than I remembered, and I think since I'm older I understand a lot of the themes and just what happened a lot more. So I went ahead and sketched the main cast!

Gamishness Project Continued!

I decided to continue my Gamishness project, where I draw a scene from The Nays, but in the style of a video game.

This one takes place during the Field Ravens Eventure when Gair first meets Trekkon, Rasake, and the rest of the Field Ravens.

And for this one, I drew it in FF8 style! I actually enjoyed drawing the background more than the characters on this one, because it felt more natural to recreate in this style. Since the PS1 models are not detailed at all, I had trouble emulating that style because expressions is my favorite thing to draw usually. I referenced some scenes of the orphanage in FF8, because those were kind of what inspired the scenes in this part of The Nays to begin with. My favorite part about FF8 is the story, characters, and composition. Obviously there are better looking games out there, but I still really love how detailed the backgrounds are, considering their limited resources at the time. The compositions obviously still hold up really well. The updated resolution in the Steam Mod makes the art look a lot nicer too, but I tried to emulate the old style by sharpening and blurring certain parts, to feel more genuine.

Forgotten Doodles

Various sketches I've done over the past month that I probably forgot to post!

More from FF8!

While I continue to replay FF8, I continue to draw more and more fanart of it, haha.

Another quick FF8 fanart. I'm about halfway done (or maybe more?) with disc 2 in my replaying of FF8, and I came across this quote. Squall is starting to catch on. His friends can't hide it anymore.

And a few more composition studies.

FF8 Drawings!

So I started my FF8 save file back up last night, which means, more composition studies! And I did some doodles too.

I drew lots from in Balamb Garden, but also a few others until the very first shot you see of Squall and the team on their way to Dollet. I think I spent a bit more time with these ones than I did with my previous ones. But the perspective on a few of these was tough to get.

Some FF8 character doodles I did one night for fun.

Final Fantasy XV Release Date!

Last night I watched the FFXV Uncovered event, and I've got to say, I'm super excited. It's been announced to come out September 30th of 2016! I've been waiting since 2006. Ten years. Almost half of my life. So basically my entire life as an artist (since 2006 is when I started to consider art as a career). I was anticipating this game the year that I made my deviantART account. So that's a long time ago.

But anyway, I made a speed painting of Noctis and Luna to celebrate this event!

 The initial sketch

And then more cleaned up lines and a base color.

Fanart Stuff

So every once in awhile I do this thing called take a break and sometimes draw fanart.

I ended up replaying Undertale a little while back and got the Pacifist Ending. It was definitely worth it. This was originally going to be a 10 minute sketch, but I got a little carried away.

Some doodles of Lightning in different costumes from back when I started playing Lightning Returns.

Drew these after the Dangan Ronpa announcements early in December!

Final Fantasy Art

I've been in a Final Fantasy mood recently, which has been hard because I've been so busy that I haven't had time to play much. But I'm managing to schedule a little bit of time to play, around my work.

Whenever I get some off-time, I've been trying to play through FF8 again. And I've been realizing how the compositions are all really good! FF8 was actually the number one example and inspiration for the camera angles I wanted to accomplish in my game, Detective Ragger. But I did this as a good exercise to practice compositions while replaying FF8. It gives me a chance to take a break from constant work and just really analyze and enjoy the best game out there, once again.

So I beat FF13-2 last week. I definitely have a love-hate relationship with the FF13 series, but at least the characters are great.

Sketchbook Requests

So since I've gotten back from Seattle, I've been drawing in my sketchbook a bit more while I'm out and about. Mostly in car and bus rides. But I asked my brother for some requests to draw of our characters, to spice things up a bit more.

Lots of fun requests!

I also drew some FF13-2 fanart when I started that game up.

Off to Seattle!

So I'm finally heading off to Seattle today! Since I'm not bringing my computer with me, this will be my last blog post until some time in August. I'm still going to try to post to my Instagram once a day, so check that out if you have one!

Here's all the stuff I've done recently that hasn't been posted here yet:

Ralphie is an extremely loud boy who is almost always talking (he even comments whenever no one is currently talking). Whenever him and Gojo are doing something together, they'll usually be screaming and trying to have as much fun as possible. He does not like it being quiet and also annoys many people. Ralphie is barely ever serious in peaceful times, but when someone he really cares about is in trouble, he can almost completely change his personality. Although best friends with Gojo, he can sometimes become jealous of him living with Mar. Ralphie wants to one day follow in his father's footsteps and become a detective, but at this point, he's much more pre-occupied in The Worlds to think about future plans. That doesn't stop him from "playing detective" in multiple circumstances, though.

Bason is a very laid-back guy who often travels due to his job. Because of this, he doesn't always want to drag his son Thing with him, so Malcolm takes care of Thing often. He sometimes helps out with minor tasks for the Tano Military, but he is not really much of a fighter. His wife Florence is the one who actually helps out in fighting.

The Brother Who Talks Like This, commonly known as The Brother or "Bro," follows in his Nephew's footsteps of attempting to seal off The Worlds so that The Nays are trapped there forever. He is very cunning and is able to make up believable stories about his past for others to believe. Bro forms a group of friends with Yaguzi and Opko, and eventually Zandra begins to side with him.
A doodle of Red XIII to celebrate the announcement of the Final Fantasy VII Remake for PS4.

And these were some doodles I did at the Mentor Mall while waiting for my food to be ready.

Codingggg

Yesterday was mostly coding and taking a small break from art, since I've been storyboarding all week. Over the past few days really, I have been learning all kinds of coding. It started out as a lot of fun, but now the confusing parts are coming in, so it's a bit more of a challenge. But none-the-less, I'm still determined to learn more. And then I started working on some stuff for the animated short I'm working on with my friends (I even got to use some coding there, so that was fun).

I did some more Aladdin gestures during the day.

The Dog Eats Strangers

So I did my second livestream last night. I did a digital piece of Shadow from Final Fantasy VI (those of you that have played the game will understand the title of this post).

It's Officially E3 Week!

Just want to start off with saying how exciting E3 has been thus far. Sony had a great conference last night, and it got me really pumped for what else is to come this week.

6/10/13

So to celebrate Square-Enix's announcement of Final Fantasy XV, I drew Noctis. Just seeing a new trailer for the game that I've been looking forward to almost half of my life made me so excited and pumped up to play the game whenever it happens to come out.

End of Winter Break

So I'm heading on back to CCAD soon, since classes start back up on Monday. So just like every other break, I've been doing nothing but working on stuff the last week of break to make up for the lack of work throughout the rest of break. Annd since I am going back, I apologize in advance since I will most likely have much smaller updates or delayed in updates due to college.

"Laughter of Friends"
A re-drawing I did of an old piece. These are my characters, Pearl and Pubby. So I decided to re-design Pearl, but I'm not sure if this is his final design or not yet. This was also a quick late present I did for my brother.

"Self-Portrait Banner"
This was one of my first concepts for the new banner, but I wasn't too satisfied with how it turned out, so I decided to scrap it.

"Banner Concepts"
Some sketches I did as concepts for the above banner I created.

"Kodomo no Omocha - FF8 Style"
I was really just experimenting with digital painting in Sai here.

"Cave Banner Concepts"
Some concept sketches for a new banner I have in mind. I'm considering changing the name of my blog as well to fit with this banner, but we'll see.

"Panda Sketches"
Some panda sketches I did before creating a re-design of my character, Pearl.

"Fox Sketches"
Jinny and I did some fox sketches this past week, and these are what I did. She suggested I draw animals, and I agreed since I really don't draw them often enough because I've never really been very good at it.

"Gestures"
Daily gestures from the past week.
