Animation III Final COMPLETE!

So I finally finished my Animation III final as far as it's going to be done. I've been working on it on and off during break, but I think I can call it finished at last.

Here's my final animation!

Animation: Nearing the End

My Animation III final is due a week from today, so I've been working a lot on the clean-up animation for it this week. So be prepared for a bunch of finalized work in my blog posts next week!

Started the clean-up for Scene 3

Cleaning up Animation

So I finally reached the clean-up stage for my Animation III final. I completed Scene 4 so that I could get a feel of what my finished scenes are going to look like. It's split up into two parts because I was having some difficulties getting the second part to work when in the same file as the first half. Playing around with the particle modules was pretty difficult to understand, but once I learned it, it ended up being quite useful. I still need to go back and fix some things up in this scene once I finish the whole short, but here it is for now!

Animation III Final Progress!

So this week I worked on trying to finish my roughs for Animation III and put them all together in After Effects so that I could see it all together.

And I also did my backgrounds for the short as seen below.

Rough Animations Progress

I'm almost done laying out all of the rough animations. I just need to fix up some of the ones I already have and do about one more, then I'll be ready to start into clean-up (I'm hoping by Thanksgiving). I also started on some backgrounds.

In-progress Animation of my first walk in perspective. Obviously there's a lot unfinished in this scene, but I just wanted to post what I have so far.

And this is a quick little background test I did using Goro's brushes.

Animating Progress

For the past few weeks I've been working on trying to finish all of the rough animations for my short in Animation III. Probably in the next week or so, I hope to tie them down and start on creating finished backgrounds and starting on clean-up animation.

Crunch Time!

So my schedule's getting super busy and next week is when A LOT is due. And in regards to Animation III, we are focusing primarily on getting everything for our short in the next month. I'm planning on finishing all of the rough animation for mine within the next few weeks so that I can start on clean-up.

This is a short clip of Mikey creeping out from behind a cauldron. I haven't gotten feedback on it yet, and I still am not satisfied with it.

Thought Process Animation

So this week we animated basically all week. I started out with a different animation, but with some help from my instructor, I figured out how to fix a bunch of the original errors. So this is what I have so far!

We were supposed to involve a thought process and then a reaction in our animation, so here it is!

Fun with Characters

This week we mostly focused on finishing up the roughs for our animations. But today in class we made up some characters as a class, based off of photos from shorpy.com.

This is what I have for my animation. We worked with facial animations more for this assignment.

And these were the characters we came up with.

Facial Animation

We've been working a lot with facial animation and emotions this week in Animation III.

Here's the animation I've been working on!

And we did some gestures from Charlie Chaplin today in class.

Rigging!

So this week we worked primarily on Rigging in Harmony. We learned a bunch of really cool tools, too. The lip syncing tools are particularly useful!

Here is my finished rig for class.

Gestures and Characters

We didn't have Animation class on Tuesday, so our assignment instead was to go out and draw gestures.

More Animating Fun

So Animation III has been making me enjoy animating a lot more, I've noticed. I'm really enjoying rough animation more than clean-up now. This week we worked on refining our first rough pass of our animations, as well as doing some gesture drawings from cartoons.

My refined rough pass.

Gestures from Toy Story.

Gestures from One Froggy Night and What's Opera Doc.

Animation Updates!

This week in Animation III we started animating our short. I ended up getting some of the roughs done and I re-learned some things about timing and charts. Overall it was a successful week.

Here's the rough animation I did.

Some sketches of the character in my animation, Kai.

Gestures drawn from the Three Caballeros.

Symphony Hour

This week's main assignment was doing the in-betweens for a portion of Symphony Hour. There are some more gestures and other exercises done during class as well.

The clip from Symphony Hour. I did the in-betweens, while the keys were given to us.

Gestures done from Peter Pan. I decided to use the cintiq this time instead of my sketch book. I think they came out nicer than the ones I've done for class in the past.

These were gestures from Tom & Jerry.

An exercise we did in class, dealing with making our characters expressive.

Animation Planning!

For Animation III, our first assignment is to create a character and storyboard an animated short. So for mine, I decided to go with the idea of a black mage named Kai, who seeks out a new master in the art of magic. That master is Mikey.

Some quick character sheets I did for the two characters in my short.

Here's the first draft of the animatic for the short.

Animation III Begins

So for my Animation III class, we're required to blog everything. So from now on, my Animation III posts will be separate from the daily (or however often I can) updates.

Our labs don't have any animation software yet, so all we've been able to do in class so far is draw gestures from cartoons.
