Drawing EVERY DAY

I've been going along with my promise to draw something every day. Basically all of these are just sketches I did of my characters. I'm trying to develop a new style so I'm referencing other artists' styles and trying to make my own based off of theirs as a start.

 "Thorny Bush"
This is the only piece of this update that isn't sketches of my characters. I actually made this a couple of weeks ago, but I never got around to making it look presentable until today. My brother helped me out a lot in learning how to use Maya. I also was having a lot of issues animating it and making the lighting look right, so I ended up having to take a lower quality picture to present it. I might figure out how to fix this thing up completely some day though.

Finals are Finally Over~

So it's been awhile since I last updated my blog, but I blame finals. My last final was Thursday, but I've been settling in back at home the past couple of days so I haven't really had time to update or do much art so far. But hey, that's what the rest of summer is for!

"Under the Mask of Rudat"
So this is my character, Rudat. I have not yet drawn him without his mask, but I figured it would fit with the theme. This image deals with the theme of masking one's feelings. Since Rudat wears a mask all the time, no one is able to see his face underneath the mask. It is common that people will wear a mask of happiness on the outside, while they are actually hurting on the inside. I decided to include pieces of his mask breaking away to show the tears underneath.

"No More Tears"
The boy on the left is JrTr, and the girl on the right is Clove. Since this is the last of the pieces in my series, it is a bit more uplifting than the rest. Although Clove is crying, JrTr is comforting her. This image depicts the message of never being alone. Friends are always there to comfort us in our hard times.

"Self Portrait Drawing Final"
My Final self portrait for my Drawing class. Some of the proportions are a bit off, but it's probably one of the best drawings I've done for my class.

"Expressive Color Self Portrait"
One of my finals for painting class with somewhat of a sad mood; it kind of ties together with my quick studies. I was mostly playing around with perspective and colors in this piece.

"Extreme Self Portrait"
One of my finals for painting class. I painted this with an effect that made my left eye much larger, as if looking through a fisheye lens.

"Personal Space Game"
You can download the actual game by clicking download here.

"Personal Space - Game Over"
This is the game over screen to my Personal Space game.

"Brawl of the Gangs"
To watch the animation, click here.
This story takes place within a large city known as Neo Obelisque City. This is a city in which many gangs roam. Primarily there are two major gangs that run the different parts of the city: the Dusty Dimes and the Bleeding Libras. Within this animation, Yaro is the central figure. Yaro is the leader of the Bleeding Libras, and the man who is caught in the Dusty Dimes’ area. Lonny, the leader of the Dusty Dimes, sends his whole gang after Yaro to try and kill him. Yaro, being the strongest member of his gang, is able to fend off the Dusty Dimes until they almost take him out from behind. Luckily his partner, Dusk, comes to the rescue and saves him. The two of them then run from the Dusty Dimes’ area of the city, while being chased. In the end, they escape their turf and end up back in the Bleeding Libras’ area, behind the lot of cars.
"Hopping Through the Line"
To watch the animation, click here.
This is a quick rotoscope study that I did of footage that I recorded of my family at a party.

"Pen and Ink Figure"
This is the last in-class drawing that I did for Drawing. Since pen/ink is my favorite traditional medium, I really enjoyed doing this. It's a shame I didn't have enough time to finish it though.

"Foreshortening"
This is one of my first times dealing with foreshortening.

Finals... Consuming My Life...

So literally I've been going crazy with all of this workload of finals. Don't have all that much time to do anything besides finals, but I decided that I can't go against my word that I would update my blog once a week. Sooo here's a lot of the stuff I've been doing recently. I don't have time to write descriptions for everything, but I'll at least title all of them. I'm kind of amazed at how satisfied I've been with some of my recent pieces. It's either I've improved a lot this semester, or I work better under a lot of stress and pressure of having so many deadlines in a short amount of time. xD Oh but I don't have time to upload any of my animations anywhere, but that will be on next week or the week after that's update.

"Color Self Portrait in Progress"
One of my finals for painting class. I managed to get this much done in one class period, but it still has a lot of work to be done on it. I was mostly playing around with perspective and colors in this piece.

"Expressive Self Portrait in Progress"
One of my finals for painting class. I painted this with an effect that made my left eye much larger, as if looking through a fisheye lens.

"Under the Mask of Rudat in Progress"
One of my quick studies. This is still in the early stages, since I have not shaded it at all.

"Rudat Sketch"

"Title in Progress"
Title screen for my game for Design class. I might still change it up a bit, so it's kind of a work in progress.

"Forest Panorama"
Background image for the first map of my game for my Design class.

"Rendered Portrait"

 "Head & Shoulder Gestures"

Finals...

So literally I've been working non-stop on all of my finals for all of my classes. That's my excuse for this incredibly small update. Honestly I could barely fit the time in my schedule to even update for this week. But here it is.

"Design Final - Map in Progress"
This is just one of the maps for the game I'm making for my Design class final. It's the first map in the game, but there's still some work that needs to be done on it.

"Color Self Portrait Sketch"
Here's the sketch for my color self portrait for my painting class. I had my other sketch done but I forgot to take a photo of it. That shall be in next week's update I suppose.

"Experimental Final in Progress"
And so most of my time has been dedicated to my Experimental Animation final. I didn't have enough time to export what I've got so far, but it's definitely more than the last time I posted it up here. This is just a preview image of one of the finished frames I've got so far.

"Colored Pencil Figure"
My first finished colored pencil piece of a full figure. We drew the figure in a whole scene, but I personally don't really like how the background elements came out. For some reason this picture is a little blurry, so hopefully I'll re-take it and have a better quality image up later.

Scheduling

So I don't have all that much of an update this week since I've been so busy worrying about scheduling for next semester. Although I didn't get into Animation I, I still got almost all of the classes that I wanted, so it went pretty well. They might be opening up another Animation I class anyway so hopefully I'll be able to still get in for the semester. I've been working a lot on my rotoscope animation for my Experimental Animation class as well, which has also been keeping me from drawing anything else besides that.

"Master Drawing in Progress"
This is my master drawing that I am working on for my drawing class. It is a replication of 'Study for Adam' by Raphael Sanzio. It is not finished, but here is what I have so far.

"Master Drawing Rough draft"
Just the rough draft of my master drawing. I did this in about one class period, so it is very rough and unfinished.

"Google SketchUp Practices"
My first time using Google SketchUp. This is just a basic structure that I created while experimenting and using all of the different tools.

"Figure Under Painting in Progress"
Just more progress on my first full body painting.

"Lonny Blue and Ventanna Bureu Concept Art"
Quick character concepts for Lonny Blue, leader of the Dusty Dimes, and Ventanna Bureu, a bounty hunter and member of the Dusty Dimes. Just some concept art for my rotoscoping animation.

"Yaro Digby and Dusk Ikazu Concept Art"
Some more character concepts for my rotoscope animation. These are the two leaders of the Bleeding Libras.

"Mr Marcus Concept Art"
Concept for my rotoscope of Mr Marcus, leader of a World and member of the Dusty Dimes.

"Allan Concept Art"
Concept of Allan, a member of the Dusty Dimes, and student of Mr Marcus.

Busy Week

I've had a lot of homework recently, so that's why this is such a late post.

"Water's Not the Only One"
*ABOVE IS ONLY A PREVIEW IMAGE. Click here to view the actual animation.*
This is an animation that I did for a project in my design class. We basically had to research a topic from a list, and create a project relating to our major and the research. So I chose to make an animated short about water quality and the purification process of water, since I chose to research water quality. This animation is not only about simply purifying water and saving the planet, it also includes the theme of friendship. The message is within the title of the animation: Water’s Not the Only One. If a person becomes corrupt, isolated, or changes for the worst, there is always a chance that they can be changed back to who they used to be, or that they can just become a new person by starting over again. No matter what, friends will help each other to overcome the obstacles in life, and they will always stick together no matter what.

"Experimental Rough Animatic"
*ABOVE IS ONLY A PREVIEW IMAGE. Click here to view the actual animation.*
This is just a rough animatic that I created for my Experimental Animation final. I meant to make it longer, but I ran out of time before the first check-in due date. I've got a lot more planned for it, but here it is so far. Right now, it's basically just a really rough rotoscoping of a video.

"Contrasted Charcoal"
One of my first charcoal pieces that I've actually been satisfied with. I was drawing on toned paper, and was able to do a lot more with contrast in this piece. I still could have blended it a little bit more, but this is what I had time for in class.

"First Painted Portrait"
This was one of the first portraits I painted in painting class. It could have been a lot better if I had the time to finish painting it, but it was basically just a quick study we did over two class periods.

"First Painted Portrait Under-painting"
This was my first time ever doing an under-painting for a painting, and I realized that it really helps. For some reason, I kind of liked the under-painting better than the finished portrait.

"First Full Body Under-painting"
This is the under-painting of the current painting that I'm working on. It's just really rough and no where near being finished though.

"Art History Doodles"
These are just some doodles that I did in art history awhile back. I didn't take a picture of it until now though.
