Detective Ragger Demo Available for Download!

So I finally finished up my senior thesis: a demo for my game, Detective Ragger. It took a lot of work, but was a really great experience overall. I have been working on this game for about a year now (at least this particular version of it).

About the game:

Detective Ragger is a detective styled game created in RPGMaker VX Ace. I created it for my senior thesis class all year long. Originally I had made a draft of this game in RPGmaker 2003 about 5-6 years ago, but this is the revamped version where I fixed a lot of things up and actually used all of my own art to create the game.In this demo, you play as Adrian (Detective Ragger), on a detective case to find some thugs who have kidnapped a client's wife. This is the first playable part in the prologue section of the game, but there will obviously be a lot of exposition leading up to this point in the full version of the game. The full version of the game will not be released for a few years, due to how my schedule is set up.

Cintiq Doodles

Last week when I still was able to go to the cintiq labs, I did a bunch of sketches for fun. It felt good to finally draw for myself (more than my daily characters at least).

This was actually a request my brother had a few months back. Pubby riding a motorcycle!

Lie City - Layout & Timing

I finished up layout for an animation that I'm working on. The layout was due for class two weeks ago, so that's what I've got so far. I plan on revising the layout a bit for a few of the scenes, based on notes from my professor. But overall, the layout stage is pretty close to being finished, and I plan on actually fully animating this at some point in the future.

Last Characters on the Cintiqs

The last characters I drew back at CCAD on the cintiqs. I'm going to miss those a lot.

Easily one of the most carefree Nays, Murou is a super cheerful boy. He likes to look at the bright side of every situation and is always there to help his friends. He enjoys baseball and online RPGs. He is very close to both Ann and Zandra, but it's uncertain which of the two he is actually in love with.

Veetoff is a very angry kid who has a lot of pride for his tribe. He hates Gair because his relative betrayed their tribe, as he deems hims "The Traitor." Veetoff is very focused on getting stronger and will do whatever it takes to be the strongest. He never gives up and always trains in his spare time.

Kovu & Megumi

Catching up on posting some characters from the end of the semester.

Megumi is a selfish, snobby girl. She doesn't really care for any physical activity. Megumi has very few friends from The Worlds, but supposedly has quite a few back home. She usually is not very friendly, but she has a big crush on Shaw, and will pretend to be nicer than she actually is, to win him over.

Kovu is a very kindhearted bird that leads Tag World. In his years taken over by TGWTLT, he felt very powerless and was mad at himself for allowing such a being to control his World for such a long period of time. Once Kovu is back in control of his World, he takes away the strict rules of Tag World so that The Nays and citizens of his World can live there without fear of being attacked or captured by the Higher Up Birds.

First Characters of Break

Once classes ended last week, I was able to relax and not worry about classwork as much.

Milada is the product of "Project Cipo's Best Friend" that was done by Ciporsius. She has deformations, therefore is known as a "failed experiment." She was created with emotions and becomes very vengeful because of how much she is neglected due to her appearance. She is a combination of Cipo and his mother's genes, which is why she did not exactly come out "perfect" like Ciporsius had hoped.

Eather is a very outgoing cat who loves to sing. She always speaks her mind out and doesn't care what others think of her. Eather loves to nap and is often found getting excited over small things. Eather loves talking and is never too shy to say anything.

CCAD Graduation!!

So I finally did it. I graduated from CCAD. I usually don't make posts without artwork, but this was a pretty major event, so I figured I would post an update on what is happening now and what is to come.

I still don't really feel like graduation happened, so I guess things aren't fully kicking in. Maybe when I don't go back in the Fall, the feeling will really hit me. But for now I'm going to try and focus on what is next to come.

This summer, starting in June, I will be working at iD Tech's Seattle location, so I'm super excited for that. It'll be my first time going to Seattle, so it's pretty exciting. Also it will be my first time teaching the RPGmaker class, so I'm pretty happy about that. I can't wait to start making lesson plans for my students.

From August and onward there aren't really any finalized plans yet, but I plan on applying for some jobs and see what happens from there. But in the meantime, I hope to get some rest for this next month. I need to recharge before fully working on any major projects.

But aside from recharging, I plan to work on my portfolio this next month. I've been so caught up with my thesis (which will be released online within the next week or so) that I really haven't had a chance to work on my portfolio full time. I want to do a lot more studies and focus solely on improving my artwork. I've been too busy to focus in on improvement, so I plan on studying a lot to hone some of my skills this summer.

Aya & Dusk

These were characters I did my last few days of classes, so they were a little rushed.

 Ayazuki is a very solemn girl who does not disobey orders very easily. Although, once seeing outsiders from outside Yigness, she becomes more rebellious and changes into a girl who longs to find herself and her true purpose in the world. She acts tough on the outside, but inside she is actually a girl who wants to be loved and surrounded by friends, which is why she often rescues Scott, in hope that he will invite her to do so.

Dusk is a very tough girl. She grew up rather independently and doesn’t like to look to others for hep ever. She likes picking fights and is one of the lead members in Yaro’s gang, the Blood Lords. Dusk refers to herself as “The Poisonous Eagle” because she believes that while she acts on her own, she is free. She is also very powerful and can act as a “poison” in battle because she will usually not end a fight until her opponent is either dead or badly injured.

Iggy & Wasa

Some characters I did during finals week.

Wasa is a serious puppet master who enjoys sewing. He does not speak very often and usually likes to be by himself. Wasa hates people and prefers to spend time with his puppets, rather than actual people.

Iggy is a worker at Braves Corporation who is usually seen slacking off or "pretending to work." He hates working hard and will do anything to avoid putting in major effort. He is pretty perverted and gross, which is why he is put into a very low position at his work. He does not have many friends because of his disgusting sense of humor.

Bird Characters

Some bird characters from the past week.

Doesa is the kindest of the Higher Up Birds. Although, he is easily tricked and very naive. Doesa is very strict on following orders and is usually not the one to speak out against them. Doesa is more of a follower, but once he is put in charge of the Higher Up Birds, he slowly obtains leadership abilities and gains more self-confidence as well.

Raven is a bird who is best friends with Guh. He is a follower of Guh and doesn't really have his own opinion. He is always found doing whatever Guh is doing, and has the same views as him.

Lupita & Max

I managed to keep up with my Character-a-Day project even during finals, so now I'm catching up on actually posting them!

Lupita is the strongest creature in Biggert City, and second in charge of The Big Kids. He is close friends with Chiz, therefore one of the most intimidating creatures of Biggert City. After he was trained by his new teacher, Lupita became much more mature and much stronger.

 Muko is the president of the largest and most powerful company in all of Aiml World, Muko Inc. His main goal is to collect Cloud Energy and use it for research experiments. He attempts to modernize areas that are filled with Cloud Energy, in order to harness it for the company's use.

Last ASC Meeting

This past Friday was the last Animation Student Collective meeting that I'll ever be attending, so it was sad, but a lot of fun. I'm gonna miss having somewhere to go every Friday night.

This was the animation I did for our last ASC Meeting during Smackdown Live! We only had about an hour to work on it, so it was quite a challenge, but a lot of fun.

No More Classes

So I am completely done with school forever. It's a strange feeling I must say. I finished up classes last night around 5pm, so now this last week will be recovering from my sickness, catching up on sleep, and spending my last moments in Columbus with my friends.  I'm not really sure if I should feel relieved, happy, sad, excited, scared, or whatever else is mixed into this weird feeling. Once I graduate next week I may have a more definite feeling, but we'll see.

Now in the meantime, I will be drawing my daily characters. I promise, I still did during finals, but they weren't really the best quality drawings. I will be trying to catch up on posting those, THEN my thesis and finals will be up. So bear with me while I get through these older drawings.

Ben Kino was once an innocent young boy who always loved to laugh. Things have changed and he laughs no more. He got tired of being excluded and decided to take things into his own hands. He is now a strong, merciless leader who leads all of those who were forgotten. He seeks out revenge against those who forgot him and treated him like he was invisible.

Toad is a very lively man who leads the World of C R I M. He is acquainted with many various people, and has knowledge on many diverse people. Toad has a very enthusiastic attitude and will become excited quite easily. When he opposes a specific idea, he will not hold back his opinion and will state exactly as he thinks.

Earthbound Remake Group Project

So my Theories of Personality class, I have been working with a group to create a mock-up idea for an Earthbound remake. We had to figure out the personality type of the people who would buy the remake, which we found out through a survey. And the last portion was creating artwork for it.

This was a cutscene still that I drew, for when Tessie comes.

And then this was a version with how it would actually look on the 3DS.

And this was the persona that Anna created for our target audience. She's based on Kumatora from Mother 3.

They were really fun group members to work with, and I had a pretty enjoyable experience overall with the project.

Cipo and his Friend

These ones are more closely related in story, and coincidentally their birthdays fall around the same time.

Cipo is a very formal young man who is always with his friend, Kolo, also known as Cipo's Friend. Cipo is the son of a famous inventor, so has learned some valuable skills from his father. Cipo is always watching over The Nays no matter which World they are in, but he comes from Tag World. Although he is watching over them, he is pretty much the same age as them, so they often don't listen to him.

Kolo, commonly known as Cipo's Friend or CF, is the clone of Cipo and result of "Project Cipo's Friend." He is slow and deformed, but he has a big heart and always wants to cheer people up. He is Cipo's very best friend, and actually one of the few friends he has. As a child, Cipo was very lonely so his father created this friend for him. CF has a very similar personality to Cipo, but upon the recent discovery that he is a clone, he has begun to distance himself as an individual.

Ramona & RoaR

Some fun characters!

Ramona is a very excited girl who loves dancing and singing. She loves watermelons and going picnics with a passion. She has a very bubbly personality and is always in a group with her good friends. She generally speaks very loudly, but knows when to control her volume.

RoaR is a boy who does not trust anyone, even those who are close to him, because of a traumatic experience early in his life. Whenever he believes he is becoming too good of friends with someone, he will murder them, but his latest friend, Punchy, escaped. RoaR's goal has been to pursue Punchy and kill him to keep up his tradition. RoaR is very strict on obeying orders, and will urge everyone not to disobey his orders. RoaR has died many times, but every time he dies, he is somehow brought back to life.

Thing & Oujou

These characters I had a little more difficulty with for some reason.

Thing is a very strange young boy. He changed from being a knowledgeable young boy to one with very little intelligence. Thing has strength within him, but he is usually too clueless to battle unless his friends are really in trouble. He is commonly seen with a large smile on his face as well as some kind of dirt or food stains on his clothes or face. Thing likes training and believes that if he stops moving, he will become weak, so is often found running around.

Oujou is one of the members of the Death Association. He is a man of few words who is very intimidating. Oujou always wants to battle and kill. He takes pride in the number of people he kills and even keeps count. Most demons in the Demon World fear this man because he is so powerful and bloodthirsty.

We did some gesture drawings at Weeklies this week! I've been kind of rusty, so this was a nice exercise for me.

Serenity & Curry

Some more familiar characters.

 Serenity is the sister of Kevin and the wife of Gary. She is very kindhearted and has a strong passion for her husband. Serenity is always seen dolled up and wants to do everything she can to impress her husband. Whenever she is around him, she is always seen clinging to him and standing closely at his side. Love has been the center of her life and she is living a very happy life.

Curry is a movie director who lives in SN World. He is a man of few words who hates the Blue family, mostly because of his past in the Dusty Dimes. He enjoys traveling to different Worlds and finding actors off the street to perform in his movies, in order to provide a "nice variation," as he puts it. He is very mysterious and not much else is really known about him.

Guido & Chone

Chone is a very proper young man who loves analyzing and problem solving. He is very intrigued by science and math, as he excels greatly in those subjects. He has skipped ahead many grades because of his genius abilities. He speaks using very big words and in a very scientific way. Because of this, people often find him boring and he thinks highly of himself.

Guido is a very deceitful man who is known for backstabbing his allies. He is a long-time enemy of Eitear and the rest of Outlaw Bar. Although he was once one of them, he always had a bad attitude and would manipulate others. He believes that he should be own Outlaw Bar because he one of the most powerful people on all of Surreal.
