Christmas & New Tablet

So the reason for my late update is because of Christmas, being busy with family and everything. But for Christmas I got a new Monoprice Tablet, and it works great so far! So now that I've got a new tablet, I can finally get back to being productive and get some digital art done.

"Lord of Pride"

My friends and I did a Secret Santa Exchange. So I drew Tara's character, Lucy. This was the first piece I did when I got my new tablet.

"Colored Pencil Sketches"

A whole bunch of sketches I've done so far over winter break. I've found my love for colored pencils. I almost feel like I can't sketch in any medium but them now that I've become so attached to them.

"Squall Gestures"

Some practice digital gestures; I drew Squall (from Final Fantasy VIII) in all of the poses for these gestures though.

"Gesture Practice"

A bunch of gestures done mostly using figure drawing sites; some is from life though. I've done these pretty much every day of break so far. Some were done while referencing the Vilppu Drawing Manual. Others were done during drawing sessions Jinny and I had together.

First Semester of Sophomore Year: Completed!

So I just finished up my first semester of sophomore year this past Friday. It was a very busy semester, as you can probably tell from the recent posts I've been updating with. I haven't even had a chance to really upload anything not for my Design for Media class since early October. Now I'll be uploading everything else that I've done in my other classes and in my free time. Enjoy my massive update:

"Neuro's Evil Torture"

This was my gift for the Secret Santa Swap that the Animation and Illustration Collectives did at my school. I had a lot of fun with this and I really started to realize how much more I enjoyed using Painter Tool Sai after working on this.

"Abra's Concentration"

A piece I did for the Illustration Collective at my school. This was also one of the first pieces I finished in Painter Tool Sai.

"Light Festival Massacre"

This animatic starts out with the protagonist, Benedict, standing outside of a large, fancy building. Benedict's mission is to assassinate Harrison. He faces his arch-enemy Blaine in a race to kill the target. As he runs through the masquerade, he is not only faced with his mission, but he also comes across a woman named Kali. This was my final animatic for my storyboarding class.

"Entering The Link Between Worlds"

Music Interpretation animatic for storyboarding class. This is basically about the beginning of The Nays. The Nays find themselves in a mysterious new place known as The Link Between Worlds. They are faced with many obstacles that they must overcome.

"Return to Muko Inc."

Ted and Doge come across a mysterious box in warehouse. They decide to return the box to Muko Inc. because they think that the owner would like it back. Once they push it outside, it is revealed that there is Lotus, a slave boy, inside the box. Lotus seeks their help, but they are scared off and retreat. This was my final for my Animation I class. We had to make a 20 second animation about pretty much anything.

"Eather's Banjo"

This was my first time animating to sound. We chose a sound clip out of a select few, and this was the one that I decided to go with. It's from a clip of MLP:FiM with Pinkie Pie. So this animation is really rough since we weren't given all that much time to come out with a finished piece. In fact, he wanted us to keep it rough in order to focus more on the movement rather than an actual finished animation. So this is my character Eather, since I figured this clip was close enough to her voice.

"Marker Sketches"

This was my first time using markers, so I did some experimenting with mixing colors to start it off. Jinny gave me a quick demo on how to use them.

"Colored Pencil Tests"

This semester I started experimenting with more various mediums in my sketchbook, thanks to Jinny. These are some tests that I did using colored pencils.

So I was trying to figure out how to draw myself. I couldn't really get the right style or way to draw myself though, even after this many attempts. Drawing myself accurately and stylistically is a lot harder than I thought.

A whole bunch of various sketches from throughout my first semester of sophomore year. The majority of these are my characters, but at the very bottom there are a few sketches of Abra and Missingno.

Slow Updates

So this is coming to the time that I will most likely be updating less or just having more minimal updates, since the new semester is starting up Tuesday. I'm going back tomorrow, so I might not get around to updating very much.
 

These two are just a preliminary sketch on paper and then the line work that still needs fixing up. These are for my new Final Fantasy VIII fanart piece that I am working on of the Timber Forest Owls. I'll upload that picture once I finish it, which I'm not sure when it will be.

This is just a quick digital piece I drew today. This is my character, Darkitu, while he is thinking, or as he calls it, his "Thinking Plan." I tried out a more sketchy style with pretty simple shading, since it was more of a quick drawing I did.

This is my first fanart piece of the year~ So this is a realistic interpretation of a minor character in Final Fantasy VIII. This is one of the Garden Faculty Members that are seen throughout the game. And the background is the basement of Balamb Garden.

Thing Re-Design

 

"Thing Saku Reference Form"

Here is another character in The Nays. Thing is a very strange young boy. He changed from being a knowledgeable young boy to one with very little intelligence. Thing has strength within him, but he is usually too clueless to battle unless his friends are really in trouble. He is commonly seen with a large smile on his face as well as some kind of dirt or food stains on his clothes or face. Thing likes training and believes that if he stops moving, he will become weak, so is often found running around.  

Doge and Piko's Re-designs

"Piko Ku-Haan Reference Form"

Here is one of the main characters in The Nays. He is a serious-type who is close friends with Gair. He never opens up about his past, but he still knows how to have fun with his friends. One of his main interests is training, since he seems to be one to like getting stronger. 

"Doge's New Self"

This is a re-design of my character Doge. In the newest part of The Worlds (as of now), Doge changed to look like this. Once Darkitu begins training Doge, he learns how to use nunchucks and wears these clothes.

Re-Designing

I actually drew those first two last night, but didn't get around to uploading them until now... But all of these pictures are my re-designing of old characters.

 "Larry Handu Reference Form"

Here is an old character from The Nays that I never got around to creating a good design for. His name is Larry Handu, but he is commonly just called L.Handu. He is a very shy boy who enjoys studying. He does not talk very often and he is scared of almost everything. He will only speak his mind to his closest friends like Ches, Gair, and Coy. He has practically no self-confidence and always relies on others.

 

"Sonia, Nifitann, and Andrea Concepts" 

Here are three more new characters that were made up awhile ago, but they were never actually drawn or made an appearance in The Worlds. Sonia is the woman on the left, who is in charge of the PS Chat. And then Nifitann is riding on Andrea on the right. Nifitann has the ability to shoot out lasers with her laser gun (which is not pictured in this concept). And Andrea is a flying chair that can talk. Nifitann always rides on her.

"Tifin and The Mother Concepts"

So here are two new characters that I actually made up the idea for many years ago. I never actually got around to drawing them until now. On the left is Tifin, a seductive woman. And on the right is The Mother Who Talks Like this, who just so happens to be Tifin's true form.

The Nays

I decided on trying to design a new logo for The Nays. I'm not completely sure if this is final yet, but this is what it looks like so far. I'm leaning more towards the one on the bottom with shading (out of these two). Pretty much all day today I've been working on some stuff about The Nays and trying to finalize some names for the characters and such.

Lazy Art Day

"Celia Concept Chibi"

Today I really wasn't in an artistic mood, so I ended up being lazy and just drawing a chibi so I wouldn't have to worry about proportions being realistically correct. This is my first time drawing this character. She is going to be the mother of one of my brother's characters from The Worlds. We were actually discussing recently and might be changing the name of the series to The Nays, so I might be calling the series by both of those names every now and then. The Nays is our re-creation of our series in which we'll be fixing up the problems with The Worlds and basically just trying to make it a better and more original series than we made it when we were younger.

So lately I've been drawing only traditional art, but I finally spent basically all day drawing a digital picture~

 

"Test of Willpower"

My first digital artwork in awhile~ It did take a lot longer than my traditional pieces, but overall I definitely think it came out better in most aspects. These three characters are my brother's characters in The Worlds. 

This is a scene from one of the parts that he recently made up. This scene is one filled with suspense. To summarize: basically a couple of the protagonists are forced into a situation in which three of them must volunteer to drink from glasses which could be filled with poison. The three that end up drinking the glasses are illustrated here: Trunks, Megumi, and AppleCider.

"Darkitu Concept"

Darkitu is a character that I actually created a really long time ago. He never actually appeared in The Worlds, he only appeared in a spin-off story I made in RPGmaker. But now I've decided that Darkitu is going to make his first appearance in the Preparing Eventure (which happens to be the next part that I will be working on soon). Oh and I actually ended up drawing this last night, but didn't get around to uploading then.

Sketches from the Late Night Hours

I kind of cheated by drawing the sketches of these two last night (but it was after midnight!)... but at least I did my daily drawing by finishing them up today. ^^ I also realized that I'm a lot more positive about my art at like 6am, and I feel like I draw the best at that time as well.

"Hey Bro!"

This is a picture of Opko (the boy on the left) and "Bro" or The Brother Who Talks Like This (the one on the right).  These are two new characters I just recently introduced in The Worlds.  I drew this in more of a sketchy style with little tints of color.

"Zandra x Yaguzi"
I did the sketch of this last night around 6am, but I inked and colored it today. I decided that I really liked Yaguzi from the recent part of The Worlds, the Time Paradox Eventure, so I wanted to draw a colored picture of him. Also pairing him with Zandra seemed pretty interesting. I didn't spend all that much time on the background though.

This is a scene from The Worlds. This scene is when Lotus (the boy on the left) and Xing (the girl on the right) are out on the awning of the 30th floor of Muko Inc. I will go into more detail if I post a finished digital piece of this scene.

New Year's Resolution!

I know I haven't uploaded anything to my blog yet, but I've decided that 2012 will be the year that I start uploading! My New Year's resolution for this year is to draw at least something every day. I may not be able to upload something every day, but I will try my hardest. In this post I'll upload what I've done so far this year:

"CP Russo and Altair's Old Self"

Here's some more sketching I did in my sketchbook~ It's weird... I'm 

starting to feel like I'm better at drawing traditionally than digitally now. 

A couple of months ago it was definitely the opposite.

So on the left is CP Russo, and then to his right is Altair Saosin. Altair no longer looks like this, this is just how he used to look a long time ago. These are two characters that my brother and I created for The Worlds, our fictional story and universe.

This was a picture I did for a collaboration on DeviantArt. I did this in a more chibi/simplistic style since I just thought that would be more fitting. These two are characters from the manga series Gakuen Alice.

January 1st:

"His First Friend"

So here is my first picture of 2012~ It's going with my tradition of drawing Cipo (and in this case also Cipo's Friend) as my first picture of the year! Cipo is my Original Character, and Cipo's Friend is my brother's Original Character.  This picture just shows Cipo and Cipo's Friend as young children, probably shortly after Cipo's Friend was created.
