On the Spot Sketches!

Recent character sketches! Both of these were thought up on the spot, without planning what I was going to draw.

I was playing around with a weird style here where I had the Use Pressure for Opacity checked, even for the lineart. I also kind of mixed the messy lineart with the painting itself to give it more of a blended digital painting look. This might be fun to do more of in the future! But for now I decided to paint Mr Marcus from memory, and I think I like this variation on his design better than my initial design.

I don't know if I've really drawn Arianna smiling before, because she's always nervous.

Pubby and Sobek Sketches

Here are some recent lunchtime doodles I did!

Thank you so much for all of the birthday wishes back in May! I had a great day/week.

Also Pubby's not actually 25 (he's 21 in 2084), but this quote comes from a very old script where I had him say "I'm 21, you know!" but it sounded weird, so we always joke about that quote that isn't actually in The Nays anymore. But since I turned 25, I figured it was fitting.

I've never drawn Sobek from this angle, and haven't really drawn him all that much in general. He's Piko's imaginary friend.

Super Quick Doodles

Some real quick doodles I've done recently.

I drew this in May when I was sick all week and I hadn't had time to work on my personal projects at all.

Based on a drawing my brother did of his orphan characters as "the usual suspects," since they're always the first ones to fall asleep (I've never drawn Frank without a hat). Also, I'm not much of a morning person, so this is how I feel waking up early on a weekend.

Nay Dialogue Sketching

Topaz and Spicco were exploring the mines together the other night and they kept on screaming to show each other what kind of minerals they found.

Elfno and Grenna were playing FF7 the other night. Elfno kept on talking about the pizza (underneath the rotting pizza).

Pamchan Sketches

When I got back from my trip the other week, I drew some Pamchan sketches.

I drew this back after I finished my regional staff training. It was a long and exciting weekend, but I spent the majority of the day sleeping and resting up after my plane got in at 4:30am. 

What would Pamchan and Xing look like if they fused? Well probably something like this. Just a random idea that came to mind.

FF & DBZ Fanart

I don't draw fanart a whole lot, but here's some recent fanart I've drawn!

Back when I beat Type-0, that ending caught me off guard because of how GOOD it was! The whole game's story was fairly mediocre and then Chapter 8 just turned everything around and got really good. The battle system's what kept me playing, but I'm glad I did in the end. I'm slowly beginning to understand l'Cie more (after playing through 4 games with them) so I don't hate the concept as much as I did back when I first tried 13.

I was doing some recording tests of myself drawing during my lunch break the other day, so I wanted to draw something familiar.

I felt like doing a quick doodle of Firebreath.

Memes Based on my Characters

Everyone seems to like making memes out of my characters' names. The worst part about it is that these characters were made YEARS before the memes, and then whenever I mention one of my characters, people think I'm talking about the meme... :/

Gamishness: Remastered

A new variation on an old project! I've been keeping a list of every game that I play, so after some organizing, I thought up this idea. I'm creating fake screenshots to look like these games, but with my characters and moments from Eventures. The variation is that I'm starting from the beginning for both games and Eventures. I started with the year 1985 (since that seems pretty far back), and Eventure 1. From there, I organized the games so that there are 5 games per Eventure. Eventually I'd love to draw every single one, but for now I'm drawing one game per Eventure so that I can get a bigger variety in content. I'm also giving myself a half an hour time limit, and then any additional time to finish up the piece (kind of similar to the Dr Buh's Fools Event!)

To start things off, here's Bard's Tale from 1985 for The Gek Eventure. This is while Zandra is warning the group against going into The Link Between Worlds. And I drew this in a tiny resolution, because that's actually what the NES resolution was! I didn't play much of Bard's Tale, but some parts were interesting considering the time period it was made in.

Continuing along with 1985 games, I drew Duck Hunt for the Cimc Eventure. During this Eventure, Pubby goes back home with Cimc to see his home. That's when Snuvy attacks Cimcicola, so I figured this would be pretty fitting.

Last of the 1985 games for now with the worst one I've played from that year: Winter Games. This is from The Nays Eventure when a bunch of them are racing against each other for Gek Points.

Themed NADs

I don't do the Nay-A-Day project nearly as much as I used to, but these two were done specifically for events of May! Aquina was for Mermay and Roxy was for Mother's Day.

Roxy is Matoko's enthusiastic mother who is wanted for high-profile crimes in Sil. Once her husband died of a hereditary illness, she snapped and left her son in the care of her sister-in-law and ran off on her own. She's been on the run for awhile and is a wanted criminal throughout the entire World. Roxy cares deeply for Matoko, but because of her mental state, she wasn't able to raise him on her own. In fact, she's barely even kept in touch with him. Roxy feels that she doesn't deserve to be Matoko's mother after all that she's done, so she intentionally distances herself, thinking it's for the best. She's not emotionally stable, and even though she is very lonely, she doesn't want to hurt him.

Aquina is a very talkative mermaid who can leave the water if she holds onto her Aqua Pearl. If she lets go of it, she shrivels up within minutes, so she tries not to wander off too far away from water. Aquina hates violence and is always trying to make peace. She is sometimes too needy, so Zandra slowly distances herself from her, thought they were once close friends. Aquina loves to swim in the ocean, and is very open to teaching her friends how to swim alongside her.

Mixed Media Illustration

I did something different for this Concept Sunday and created a mixed media illustration. It started in my sketchbook, then I decided to add some enhancements in Photoshop.

I started out with a sketch in my sketchbook.

I fixed up some proportions and cleaned it up a little.

I went over the lines in pen and cleaned it up farther.

I added some simple shading with pencil and pen, making certain elements pop out more than others.

I added some base colors with colored pencil.

I went over the colors with marker.

Then I made the finishing touches on the traditional piece and added color to the background.

It felt like it still needed something, so I made some enhancements in Photoshop by brightening colors and intensifying them a bit.

Experimenting with Sizes!

These are some quick illustrations that I wanted to give a more finished look to than my regular sketches. I also played around with different sizes for them.

I wanted to play around with colored lighting, and I thought drawing a scene from the Bobolo River would fit perfectly! This is when The Nays first begin to realize that the spirits of the Bobolo River are playing tricks on them. 

When Rasake gets married, she sends out her invitations in video form, since most of her friends don't have permanent addresses that she can mail them to. Digital files send faster than physical mail between Worlds, anyway.

Dreaming About The Nays

Some recent dreams that I decided to draw!

I had a dream involving time travel, so naturally, Megumi and Clove were involved. It was playing this really intense music during this scene and I feel like I kind of need to make this actually happen in The Nays now.

The other night I had a dream that involved drawing Sarah, so I figured I would make the dream a reality.

I drew my friend Hillary's character, Selene, for her birthday in mid-April. I thought her design was really cool and she drew her during Huevember this last year.
