CUPdate 36: Cimc Eventure Twine

Just like last year, this CUPdate technically happened a couple of weeks ago, but because it was relating to Christmas presents, I wasn't able to post this publically until now!

I finished the second Eventure Twine in The Nays! This one's called the Cimc Eventure.

Read the story here!

During the last two CUPdates, I presented the storyboards in their current state and told the basic story to my friends. It was a lot of fun to present the story that way and I ended up having a lot of fun going into details about it without even needing to open the script itself.

In addition to the Eventure itself, I also made a website to hold all of the Eventures here. This is going to be the landing page for each Eventure and the main way to navigate between them. I made pages for both The Gek Eventure and the Cimc Eventure so far.

I also made an Eventure recap trailer for The Gek Eventure so that a reader could watch that to remember what happened in the previous Eventure without having to re-read the whole thing.

And similar to the above, I also created a "Characters" image to show which characters were in the previous Eventure to also help keep track of who everyone is.

I'm still working out the details of the Eventure pages, but I think all of the information that's needed is in there now. So I'm going to continue to update these pages and add more of them as I finish the Twine stories.

This Eventure was a bit shorter, so I was also able to get some progress on a later Eventure Twine, the Stinky Girl Eventure. That one is still in the rough stages and not at all ready to post, but it may be coming sooner than the end of next year because I've made some starting progress on it!

I'll have some yearly updates coming up next, so stay tuned!

CUPdate 15: Christmas Presents and the Last CUPdate of 2021

This is the last CUPdate post of the year! Our last meeting actually happened the other week, but because I spent the majority of my past few weeks working on Christmas presents, I didn't want to actually post publicly about them until after Christmas. So now you can all see what I've been working on in my secret projects over the past couple of months!

The main project I've been working on is a Twine interactive story of the very first Eventure of The Nays: The Gek Eventure! We wrote this a few years back in 2017 and I've been working on the comic for it, but I've never actually shared the beginning of this story with anyone besides my brother, so this is a big step! I'm hoping in the future I can make more of these chronologically since I know in the past the few I did upload were way later in the story.

Read the story here!

The beginning portion of this story has drawings from my comic (and some of those are just lineart currently, but I plan to update them at some point), and then there are a few videos/images that my brother drew a few years back as a gift for me. But other than that, the rest of the drawings were done new for this project! So it took me around 100+ hours to draw, but I'm happy with how the overall presentation came out.

This is the story that we've been working on ever since we were kids. It's gone through multiple title changes (The Guy Who Talks Like This, The Kids, The Worlds, and eventually The Nays!).

When we officially called it TGWTLT or The Kids and made it its own story was back in 2002, so we're coming up on the 20-year anniversary! And then in 2012, we rebranded it to The Nays and the direction changed a lot, meaning it's now the 10-year anniversary of that as well. I figured this would be a great time to finally share the start of what we've been working on for all of that time. You can check out The Nays website if you want to learn more about the characters.

Though this Twine project has been the main thing I've been working on, I also did a few other mini-gifts. One of them was creating a website for all of the presents that my brother and I made for each other for holidays over the years! This goes back to 2006 when I made an AMV with inside jokes in it for my brother's birthday, then they started to get more customized over the years. Some of these are super old versions of our characters and the story when we used to just include actual characters from other series in our story, so please keep that in mind if you end up viewing this site! lol Anything 2013 and after should be more applicable though.

And then another present for my brother was that I created one of his characters (Yaro) on Hero Forge and then commissioned Sandro on Etsy to 3D print it and paint it! It turned out super small, but it's still really cool that we now have a 3D-printed model of one of our characters.

And then lastly, not really CUPdate-related, but I made a custom cookbook for my parents that includes all of our custom recipes. I used Blurb to print it, just like I used for the Spoon Bath Eventure book that I printed for my brother last year. Most of them are from my brother and I, and our friends, because we've been cooking a lot more since we moved out of my parents' house last year.

And that's it for now! I'm planning to make my usual end of the year/start of the year posts as usual, so those will still happen before the next CUPdate. I'm glad I got to finally share these projects with all of you, since it feels like this has been all I've been working on the past few months.

Nays on the Twine Moonwake - More!

These were from Chapter 2 and took place over a long period of time. I was doing NaNoWriMo, but some of these were drawn a lot earlier than when I did that.

Here are more drawings from my Twine story!
“Iniko, did you find anything you were looking for in this timeline?” she asks me.

Nays on the Twine: Moonwake Edition - Continued!

Almost a year ago, I worked on a story in Twine for a few days that involved tons of story choices, as well a bunch of story conditions and limitations to make it more fun to write.

I decided to pick the story back up and finished Chapter 1! Here are the moments from the chapter that I'm planning to put at the top of each page.

I started writing Chapter 2 of my Twine story last night, and here are some of the moments from the beginning of the chapter! This one takes place during the Timer Eventure.

End of NaNoWriMo

I finished up NaNoWriMo for November! I still have a few entries to draw for the last of Chapter 2, so I'll end up drawing those at some point in the near future, most likely. Just not on a daily basis. Time to look forward to Digicember!

I look up to notice that the guard isn’t even in sight anymore. But what I do see are two familiar kids outside the door: Gair and Trekkon. I recall seeing them earlier.

The sorcerer turns to him, shooting out small beams. Ralphie is diving all over the ground, trying to dodge because that’s all he’s good for doing.

Back to Chapter 2

As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm going back and finishing up what I didn't finish from Chapter 2! I'm planning to finish this chapter by the end of the month.

“The children were being rather noisy… Guard, I’ll need you to scout the outside. I will check on them up there,” the blue-haired man is speaking to a guard.

"So this is really… an order that must be protected, huh?” I ask him. “Wit? Uh, I guess so. We just need to find the others,” Gair replies. I think he’s distracted by something because he didn’t seem to hear a word I just said!

Ending Chapters

I finished up Chapter 3 so now I'm going back and finishing off loose ends in Chapter 2!

When I drop my dagger to my side, I smile. Maybe this was the right thing. For some reason, I can feel a faint feeling of serendipity among the chaos.

I notice two lovers cowering in the corner as a guard yells at them. Maybe they’re on our side? I look to Gair, but his attention isn’t on them at all.

NaNoWriMos with Mar and Kali

Here are some more recent NaNoWriMo entries!

Katume glares over at us. Trekkon grabs onto his chains and wraps them around Katume. “Sneaking in here and attacking from behind, huh?” Trekkon asks, scowling at Katume.

In a way, it feels cruel to decline her, but at this point, it’s really too late to go back.

Spicco & Eather's NaNoWriMos

More NaNoWriMo entries!

When I get outside, I come face-to-face with Katume. He has a golden aura for some reason and is smirking in my direction. “So traitor… what’re you doing over here?” he asks, his expression turning into a frown.

I follow Kominushu to what seems to be the core of this World.

“Let’s see… if my sources are right… he’ll be in there!” she points to a small path under some rocks. We walk for a while, following the path until we come across a boy with blue hair lying in a cave crevice.

NaNoWriMo with Ralphie and Kicky

These were some more quick drawings from NaNoWriMo.

I walk over to the girl with the star and start to question her “Umm why are you standing out here by yourself?” I ask. “Oh! You’re… one of The Nays, aren’t you?” she asks, looking at my mark on my wrist.

Me and Scott decide to just walk to the next place. Since we’re walking, we have to squeeze through all of these stupid concert people and it feels like we’re playing Tetris or something. Eventually, we get to some shop place.

“Cool, we’re here,” he says to me. Scott starts walking inside, so I should probably follow him!

Rabiah & Jibu's NaNoWriMos

I've been drawing Kominushu a bunch for these recent NaNoWriMo entries.

“I will deal this retribution to Death… I promise I’ll get him back, mom,” when she talks this time, it’s in a soft whisper.

“No, no, really, this’ll be over in a flash!” Kominushu waves her hands. She smiles as she holds out her hands, “but I suppose I could use some help if you insist. If you could hold him down for me, that’d be a huge help.”

So I grab onto the man with the blue hoodie as Kominushu throws a large white beam that flashes towards him. Once it hits him, he screams and a black creature flies out of him. “You may have escaped this time, but I’ll be back,” it shouts as it fades away.

Quick NaNoWriMo Drawings

The end of last week was pretty busy so I only ended up doing a few really quick drawings for NaNoWriMo.

We begin to slow down as a groaning is heard from the front seat. “What’s goin’ on out here, some kinda concert!?” the man in the front screams. Is this all part of that game they were talking about?

They roll out what looks like a big screen TV-sized projector and project some video clips on there. I look over at my side again to see a girl with blue hair in the distance, holding a star.

Gair & Pubby NaNoWriMo Entries

Here are some more recent NaNoWriMo entries!

“Er, what are all of these bubbles for?” I ask the boy. He doesn’t reply, but simply stops blowing bubbles and looks down at the watch on his wrist.

The truck comes to a stop in the parking lot of a shop. I turn around to notice a girl with blue hair holding a star in her hands. It’s almost like she stole it from the sky.

NaNoWriMo Amber & Johnny

Both of the outcomes of one of the choices are here!

"I refuse," I say, looking Katume in the eyes. I turn around and rush into the jungle, but I can hear him following after me. Out of instinct, I slide under a fallen tree. I hear a thump behind me.

“I’m leaving this to our newest teammate,” Katume laughs as he snatches Kominushu. He holds her up by the neck as he turns to me. “Deal the lethal blow,” he grimaces as he stares into my eyes.

NaNoWriMo with Kai & Grenna

More jumping around to finish paths!

“Don’t be afraid. I’m Katume, and I’ve got a past with those two you just ran into. That girl you saw back there is Kominushu. She’s trying to trick everyone into siding with her so that she can eliminate my entire race. And I assure you, this is no game,” he says seriously.

“I have discovered a way to log out in our real bodies!” Grenna says to Scott with a smile on his face. “Really!? How?” Scott exclaims.

“We must teleport to the overworld and then from there, we only have to speak to one of the horse NPCs! They will have an option to log out,” Grenna explains. “Cool, that sounds really easy!” Scott nods as he smiles.

It feels like everything is getting resolved after all. This feeling of serendipity. I never thought we’d find what we’re looking for from an unexpected appearance of one of our allies.

Zandra & Jennie's NaNoWriMo Entries

These ones are both from skipping around in the story.

I rush outside to see what the commotion is. I see a guy in a blue hoodie holding a gun to a girl with blue hair’s head. “This man is only possessed by a demon! Someone, please, help me out so I can save him!” the girl shouts out.

“Sha La La!” the man in the driver’s seat starts singing. Then he begins whistling a song. “He sure seems happy,” I reply, smiling towards Scott.

Entering the Shop in NaNoWriMo

Here are some more from NaNoWriMo!

I wander over to the counter behind the two boys I’m traveling with. They already started a conversation with the storekeeper. I notice his name tag says “Michael.”

The storekeeper shrugs, shaking his head. “No rumors related to that have been brought to my attention. Would you like to hear about the rumors that have been going around here?” Michael asks.

I look up at the sky as the clouds slowly weave around one another, slowly dancing along the horizon. As I try to appreciate this quiet, peaceful moment, I cannot help but feel a looming feeling that something bad is about to happen.

Nays on the Twine: Moonwake Edition - Revisited

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm revisiting the Nays on the Twine: Moonwake Edition twine story for NaNoWriMo. It's gonna be a way to finally progress through this project faster!

"Where are we going exactly...?" I ask. "Why're you pretending not to know anything?" Scott asks me. The guy at the front laughs but continues driving. I'm not even sure if Scott's gonna tell me anything.

“Alright kids, we’re stopping at this shop!” a large jolly guy steps out of the driver’s seat as he waves to us. Scott groans as he jumps out of the back of the truck.

The Start of NaNoWriMo!

This year for NaNoWriMo, I'm focusing on writing my Twine story, so I'll be writing one entry a day and illustrating each entry.

I started with the title for Chapter 3: Serendipity!

"I look over to my left to see Scott. I remember him from before. We’re both sitting in the back of a truck that drives down the road."
