End of Thanksgiving Break

So this was the first year (since I've been at CCAD at least) that I actually wound down and took a break during Thanksgiving, instead of stressing the entire time about not getting any of my finals done. I figured this is the time to really get sleep, relax, and just re-charge before heading straight-forward into the last two weeks. I'm already planning to get little to no sleep during finals, so I wanted to take this weekend to really get a lot of sleep in preparation.

Some fun events I did with my brother. We drew each others' characters based on certain prompts (drawing "as" our characters as well). I drew these on printer paper and used markers, to really go a little out of my comfort zone. So that was a ton of fun!

Buttons and Martha

I decided for my Storyboarding final to create a story about two birds who become friends, but it ends in a tragedy. I am doing a few beat boards to describe the story, and so far I have some beat board sketches. These may change by the end, but here are my initial ideas:

Construction Exercises

Lots of construction exercises this week! After going to CTN, it was very reinforced that construction is something I really need to work on. So I've been trying to improve when I can!

Gesture drawings from Looney Toons.

Some hand practice, for part of my final.

And these were some gestures I did while watching Wreck-It-Ralph. I really enjoyed drawing Venelope.

After watching Wreck-It-Ralph, I did some fanart for River City Ransom, an old 8-bit game. It was fun making such a 2-dimensional character have some volume and dimension to it.

Back from CTNX!

So yesterday I flew back into Columbus. I've been in Burbank all weekend, attending CTN-x! It was a super amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone that can afford to go, for next year. I can safely say it was one of the best weekends of my entire life. Everyone was so nice and I got to talk with so many cool people. I got so much great advice on my portfolios thanks to some super amazing artists. So much happened and I just can't even begin to describe how great the experience was.

But I can just mention a few of the highlights: I got to meet and reunite with a bunch of awesome CCAD Alumni who were in the Burbank area Friday night. I also learned some super awesome stuff at some of the Visual Development workshops I attended, as well as a bunch of the really useful panels. I got my portfolio reviewed by some really talented artists, including David Hoffman, Sherm Cohen, Pascal Campion, and Dawn Yamazi.

While I was there, I did some sketches of Pubby while waiting in line.

And then in the Burbank airport, I did some life drawings in my sketchbook.

Here are a few photos of the trip, taken by Jinny Hinkle.

And now it's time to finish up this semester and dive into these finals!
There may be limited updates from now on, depending on how much sleep and extra time I have.

Off to CTNX!

So I'm heading off to CTNX tomorrow! I'm super excited to meet tons of cool people there. I've also been prepping my portfolio.I updated my banner and am in the process of updating my blog format so look forward to seeing that by tomorrow. Also I've been doing some more drawings as a break from class.

Doge is a very outgoing dog that loves making friends. Doge is very happy-go-lucky and is always found talking to strangers. He keeps a record of events in his notebook and likes drawing pictures. Doge is a very random dog that will become very excited at moments and everyone besides his friends find him to be very strange. As of recently, Doge has befriended many of The Nays, such as Firebreath and Ted. Doge wants to be a strong leader one day and strives to improve.

Some sketches of Pubby.

Environment study.

Quick portrait study.

Tons of Expressions!

Some more fun Character Design assignments!

This was a super fun assignment where my friend Laura Mansfield gave me a character description and I had to create the character based from it.

This assignment was to draw 5 expressions, 5 variations of each, for one character. So I chose Gallu, the leader of the Party Place in Party Sanctuary who has little confidence in himself.

Ohio History Museum

So last week I had the opportunity to visit the Ohio History Museum. Currently I'm working on a research project for my story class, involving Ohio History, so these are some sketches I did while I was there, as well as some that I developed based on them.

Some character sketches for the ideas I came up with.

Some sketches from the Museum.

And some photos I took while I was there.

Keeping Up with the Characters

I've been having to rush some of these daily characters because of the amount of work for final and CTN prep I have to do, but either way, I've been trying to keep up with them!

Eustar is the youngest World Leader, so he is often very timid and unsure of himself. Sometimes he will have a complete personality change in which he is very outgoing and crazy. He always seems to have people he trusts around him just to ensure that he makes the right decisions as a World Leader.

Celia is the obnoxious daughter of a very wealthy businessman. Because of her wealth, she is somewhat snobbish and egotistic. She is not the most intelligent women, but she is extremely social. She is also not a very faithful women, as she will find multiple romantic partners and cheat on the ones she is currently in a relationship with.

Baselia is a very soft-spoken woman who is very kind-hearted. She loves helping out her best friend and husband, Rocko. She is very talkative when she is around him, and they will work to make decisions together.

Working with Gair

Working on developing Gair some more.

Some more sketching of Gair. Trying to figure out his design.
