A week or so ago, I had my portfolio reviewed and it made me start to reflect on a few things regarding the direction I am taking my art in. I decided to try something new and step out of my comfort zone for this one.

And the process!

 I started with a basic gestural sketch to get down the pose.

 And then I went ahead and detailed in the costume.

I used the sketch as a base, and then blocked in the colors. 

I started placing in the basic shading using a hard brush. 

Then I started to flesh out the background a little more. 

I softened the shading a bit and smoothed things out. 

And then I made some finishing touches to the background.

Stigly & Dact

Some characters that were introduced semi-recently in regards to which Eventure.

Stigly is a very polite young boy who enjoys helping others. His catchphrase is "Um... excuse me!" since he is always politely saying that before he speaks. He is very active and knows the train routes very well in Mr Dude World. Stigly is a very considerate young man who is always thinking about others.

Dact is a rogue bird from the southern part of Tag World who does very sketchy work. He is one of Geot's assistants who does whatever he says. Dact is a follower who always follows what his group is doing. Although, his background as a thief is what makes him so valuable to the group. He is able to sneakily steal information from their enemies, and use it against them for his dirty work.

Spring Break Camp Life Drawings

While I was at Spring Camp, I had some time to do some life drawing sketches. These were all done in the Cleveland Airport and during our staff dinner at Buca.

 

Jaysin & Solty

So now that I'm back from Spring Break Camp, that means my daily characters are back!

Jaysin is a wanted criminal from TGWTLT World, who enjoys breaking the law. He has been convicted of theft, breaking & entering, and assaulting an elderly woman all within a week, which is why Ginko sends the White Cloaks all the way to PS World to arrest him. Jaysin generally doesn't care about other people, so he's mostly a loner. Something went terribly wrong in his past, which is why he enjoys causing harm to others so much. Though he looks tough, he is actually quite cowardly when being chased or caught in the act.

Solty is one of the lead members of the Beauties Club, and is extremely concerned with her looks. Because her cousin Rith is the leader, she is placed very highly in the club, and is one of the members who chooses whether or not someone is beautiful enough to join. Her laugh sounds like it is mocking others, but she does not always mean it that way. Solty has a reserved sense of humor, so she often fakes laughs whenever she needs to fit in.

Sketches on the Plane

I ended up drawing a lot more in my sketchbook during my trip to Santa Clara. A lot of these were actually drawn on the plane ride there. But then I did a few of them also before bed. I also started drawing whatever came to mind while listening to music for some of these.

Back from Spring Break Camp!

So this past week, I taught little kids how to use Photoshop at the iD Tech Mini Spring Break Camp! It was a lot of fun and I had some really awesome kids. Each day I had 40 minutes for a break during their time at the Maker Station, so I managed to doodle these during those times. The kids were always super excited to see these sketches, regardless of how little effort/time I put into them.

The first day, I doodled Doge.

Then I drew Gair.

And then since it was Hawaiian day at camp, I drew Pubby wearing Hawaiian wear. Even if this is incredibly out of character for him.

And then I had about 5 minutes or less and doodled Mar. For some reason the kids thought she was Greek, so I dunno, haha.

And I had the opportunity to visit iD Tech's corporate office while I was there. And in addition, I got to sign the wall there!

Heading Off to San Francisco!

So today I'm getting on a plane headed for San Francisco! I'll be teaching Photoshop at the iD Tech Mini Spring Break Camp for the next week. So expect it to be a little quiet around here until I get back. Although I plan to post doodles on my Instagram account, whenever I get the chance to! So you can check there in the meantime.
