Detective Ragger Demo Available for Download!

So I finally finished up my senior thesis: a demo for my game, Detective Ragger. It took a lot of work, but was a really great experience overall. I have been working on this game for about a year now (at least this particular version of it).

About the game:

Detective Ragger is a detective styled game created in RPGMaker VX Ace. I created it for my senior thesis class all year long. Originally I had made a draft of this game in RPGmaker 2003 about 5-6 years ago, but this is the revamped version where I fixed a lot of things up and actually used all of my own art to create the game.In this demo, you play as Adrian (Detective Ragger), on a detective case to find some thugs who have kidnapped a client's wife. This is the first playable part in the prologue section of the game, but there will obviously be a lot of exposition leading up to this point in the full version of the game. The full version of the game will not be released for a few years, due to how my schedule is set up.

Getting the Hang of Mixed Media

Since I've been working in my sketchbook and then coloring digitally every day, I've been starting to get the hang of doing it better. I think Bram is probably my favorite of the bunch that I've produced so far. It's been really helping me get used to using my tablet again, too.

Bram is a lively girl who loves to have fun. She is often seen cheering or dancing around. Her attachment and liking to Tag World often sets her apart from the rest of The Nays, but she likes to stick around with Muyo.

Rajing is a very strong-willed man who is an assistant of Gallu and helps run the Party Place. Rajing often acts as a leader and will guide Gallu in making decisions because of Gallu's lack in self-confidence. He is always aware of his surroundings and is a very strong fighter. Rajing acts as a confidant to Gallu and will always be at his side.

Tegra Note Doodles

So recently I've been trying to get more comfortable using my Tegra Note for sketching. It's fun to do quick little doodles, but I'm still working on being able to create finished work on there.

Ended up realizing that painting in Sketchbook Mobile is my favorite of the free programs for my Tablet.

This one was in Art Flow.

And I tried out "Colors!" only to find out that you have to pay money to save pictures... so this is the only photo I could get of my drawing. That app was uninstalled pretty quickly afterwards....

Mixed Media Characters

I ended up going with a fun alternative for my daily characters while I'm at home. I've been drawing them in my sketchbook using pencil, then inking in marker. Then I scan them in and color them digitally. It's a neat look and it's a lot better than what I've been doing recently with strictly one or the other.

Ground Shell Master is a very powerful tank sent by the police to destroy anyone and everything against the law. He is very loud and likes to announce who he is whenever he enters the area.

Ivan is a rabbit who finds himself to be very cool. He talks very strangely and likes to put his hands on everything he sees. Ivan is usually the one who instructs tests in Marcus World, and he has a very strange sense of what he believes to be artistic.

Sketchbook Stuff from Last Week

So last week, before the vacation, I was sketching a lot more when I went out places. It gave me something to do and kept me drawing and utilizing my time better.

Some life drawing I did at the mall. This was a start of my new mini-sketchbook I got for Christmas last year. It's a really good travel-sized sketchbook, and easy to use in public.

Back from Canada!

I had a really great time in Canada, and I was able to do lots of drawing in my sketchbook while I was there! I ended up filling up 22 pages in my main sketchbook, and 6 pages in my mini-on-the-go sketchbook. Additionally, aside from all of the drawings you'll see in this post, I also drew daily characters that I will be posting throughout the week. 

These were all of the character sketches I did in the car rides.

Lots of life drawings from in the car, when we rode through the cities. They're labeled on the actual pages, but the places I was able to sketch at were: Windsor, London, St. Thomas, Mississauga, and Toronto. On the way back, in Ohio I also sketched when we went through Ashtabula and Geneva.

 

And these were the sketches done in my mini-on-the-go sketchbook. The first page is from a mall we stopped at in Kitchener, and then on the bus in Mississauga. 

Experimenting for Daily Characters

These were some daily characters where I was still experimenting and trying to see what I like best. I tried out traditional, then digital. Neither were really what I was totally looking for.

Kronos is a strong-willed boy who has a close bond with Shimahari. Since he was young, he was told to protect Shimahari, so he is very protective of her. He loves training and becoming stronger. He thinks out his actions before acting upon them, and is a very deep thinker. Kronos is often found correcting Shimahari's mistakes or preventing her from getting herself into trouble. He acts as an older brother figure to her, and loves to joke around with her.

Punchy is a very outgoing boy who loves to imitate others. His interests all revolve around his hero, Scott. Although he initially went along with whatever his brother Kicky did, he has recently started to become his own individual person. Much of his time in The Worlds was spent with his friend RoaR. After a short while however, RoaR betrayed Punchy and continually attempted to kill his family. This has caused a whole series of rivalries involving the CrY and Blue families.

Finished a Sketchbook!

Over the weekend I finished one of my really old sketchbooks. It was kind of small and falling apart, so I never wanted to use it. I ended up just taking it with me in car rides so it was easier to finally finish that old thing. And now I'm off on multiple day trip to Canada! Don't expect any blog posts until next Tuesday. If I have internet though, I may still be able to update my Instagram, so stay tuned there in the meantime.
