After drawing Thing a few times last month, I realized he really needs a re-design. So I went ahead and made some new concepts to figure out which one I wanted for him. I started with the head, then made full body clothes concepts based around my favorites of the heads.
My favorites ended up being 1, 3, and 4. I might do a combination of those for the final.
My favorites were 1 and 4. So I think 1 is going to be how he currently looks, and 4 is from the beginning of The Nays when he was less beastly.
I spent a bit more time on these Digicember sketches, so they're a little cleaner. I probably won't have this much time to dedicate to them when the next few weeks get busier, though.
07. Zandra & Shaw
There was a time where Zandra had a crush on Shaw, but all of The Nays made fun of her for it, so she was quickly discouraged. Now she admires his skills and abilities as a leader and looks up to him more as an example of what she aspires to be.
08. Elftair & Elfno
These two are brothers. Elfno looks up to Elftair, but in the beginning, Elftair is annoyed with him because he is very outgoing and crazy. Once he becomes more serious, Elftair views him as a partner more than a nuisance.
So the other week I was looking through old art and realized just how far The Nays logo has come. All the way back from when it was called The Worlds. I'm finally happy with where it's ended up now (the one at the very bottom).
Terra is slightly socially awkward, but he enjoys making new friends, so he can be talkative (like his friend Ralphie). Scott thinks this is annoying and also doesn't like Terra since he's friends with Ralphie.
06. Kali & ACider
Kali and ACider both become friends through Shaw. They're both skilled at infiltration and have a lot of strength.
I finally finished Persona 2: Innocent Sin last week, so I started Eternal Punishment right after. So far I'm enjoying it A LOT more in most aspects. The story is a lot more interesting and I love the variety in characters and just the whole feel of this game a lot more. There were also some great improvements with the battle system. As much as I'm enjoying it, overall it's a lot harder to play though. There isn't really a good way for me to play the game. I started the PS1 game (since it's the only translated version) and it's just too difficult. They upped the difficulty level a lot, so it means sitting in dungeons and grinding for hours, which is not how I enjoy playing games. And then unfortunately the PSP version was never translated, and I don't know Japanese. It sucks, because I would have enjoyed this game a lot more if I could play the PSP version in English. Oh well.
Ram and Doge haven't really talked, but I think they'd be good friends. They're both full of energy and positivity.
04. Rabiah & Murou Rabiah and Murou are both obsessed with Complex.net, so naturally they'd be good friends. I haven't inserted many Rabiah interactions into the story yet, but there probably will be some of these two.
Yesterday I felt like making some animations, so I continued my on-going project "Nays 2084 Preview." I made a lot of progress and finished one full scene from rough animation to line art to color! At least, other than the one clip at the bottom of this post that I only managed to finish rough animation on. That one's the longest clip of this scene, so it'll take a little longer to clean-up and color. I actually had a lot of fun with this scene though, so I'm happy with how it came out for the most part. I'm excited to put all of the clips together to see them animated (since right now they're just drawn out in Photoshop). For now, you can enjoy gifs of some of my favorite shots.
Since November is over and December has just begun, that means it's the start of Digicember! This year I'm doing something in the same light as I did two years ago, but still a little different. I made a list of 30 M Nays and 30 S Nays. I placed the lists into a randomizer so that it chooses 2 M Nays and 2 S Nays. From there, I'll choose 2 from the total 4 randomized that I want to draw together. This will keep the random element in there, but still give me somewhat of a choice. I'll choose Nays that I think would be fun to draw together out of the group. And from there, I might even add in a little story or descriptor of how the characters think about each other, too, just for fun. Also these are meant to be QUICK. I probably won't spend more than half an hour on these since I want to go back to doing quicker sketches of my characters without worrying about BGs, shading, clean lines, or details. I feel like my art has been getting too stiff lately, so I want to fix that by just drawing little sketches for fun each day.
01. Punchy & Jennie
This first one is Punchy and Jennie! They haven't really had any interactions with each other, but Punchy probably hates Jennie because Scott is super cold towards her. So Jennie's just kind of confused why as Punchy scowls at her.
It's funny that Jennie ended up being an option, since she was the first Huevember for this year, too.
02. Zitca & Amber
I feel like Zitca and Amber haven't really interacted either, but Amber definitely would be annoyed with Zitca because of him always saying "buh."
I started a new save file in Persona 2 this week, and this time I'm determined to finally finish it. I've been really interested in what I've seen of Eternal Punishment so I gotta beat Innocent Sin first.
Another one for the clothes changing project! It's been like a year or two since I continued this project.
So this one is for Clove! The only ones I've actually drawn before now were from the Clove Retrieval, Land of the Clouds, and Blizzard. And then I've drawn variations of Ducklin and Hillside Manor in the past. But these were really fun to make up. At first she is a lot more like childish and then once she meets Sarah, she starts to look up to her and takes on her black clothes/nets clothing style, thinking it's really cool. Then she gradually gets closer to JrTr and her clothes are more casual and relaxed. I definitely had to keep her green color palette all the way through, even if it isn't exactly apparent in the black clothed time. This was really fun to do, I love making up costumes that I've never drawn for my characters!
I decided to continue my Gamishness project, where I draw a scene from The Nays, but in the style of a video game.
This one takes place during the Field Ravens Eventure when Gair first meets Trekkon, Rasake, and the rest of the Field Ravens.
And for this one, I drew it in FF8 style! I actually enjoyed drawing the background more than the characters on this one, because it felt more natural to recreate in this style. Since the PS1 models are not detailed at all, I had trouble emulating that style because expressions is my favorite thing to draw usually. I referenced some scenes of the orphanage in FF8, because those were kind of what inspired the scenes in this part of The Nays to begin with. My favorite part about FF8 is the story, characters, and composition. Obviously there are better looking games out there, but I still really love how detailed the backgrounds are, considering their limited resources at the time. The compositions obviously still hold up really well. The updated resolution in the Steam Mod makes the art look a lot nicer too, but I tried to emulate the old style by sharpening and blurring certain parts, to feel more genuine.
Back when I was a kid, I created a monster catching show/game with my brother and his friend. We made it similar to Pokemon, but made up our own types. The most memorable type was Fruit Punch type. And then me and my brother were talking about how we need to make a monster catching game some time together, since we've never really made one of those before, other than concepts when we were really young. I remember there being an orange dinosaur and a purple/pink creature, so I did some concepts based on what I remembered being in the game.
So I designed a new character the other day. This is Rabiah's older brother! I can't decide on a name, but my options are written on the left of the page. I'm kiiinda leaning towards Xavier or Derek, but I'm not sure.
On Tuesday I went to see the new Pokemon movie in theaters, and afterwards me and my brother went to Buffalo Wild Wings. I sneaked in a few life drawings while I was there since it's been like a month since I've been able to do any.
I haven't had a whole lot of time to draw digitally other than Huevember, so these are all I've really done in the past month that wasn't for Huevember or other projects.
I tried doing another music mania, but it just wasn't inspiring me as much as it used to for some reason. I was looking back on my old ones after I drew these, an I realized this might be my least successful Music Mania session. Oh well, just gotta keep drawing until I get unstuck again! As a bonus, I designed Dark Wolf and what the Complex.net VR Headset looks like. I've been in the mood for Complex.net recently, since I wrote up a whole description of that World and re-imagined some things from it.
Also this is a digital painting I did back for Halloween! I celebrated by rewriting the Timeless Abyss Eventure, which includes the Ghosts' Safe Traveling Day Ceremony (aka Tag World's version of Halloween). But I decided to draw this little mini-illustration of Snull scaring Ralphie (who is dressed as a pirate).
