Gesture Drawings (It's been awhile)

At the ASC and Weeklies, we've been doing more gesture drawing, which is good, because I have been too busy to do any on my own time really, as of recently. So this has been super useful and made me realize how I need to get back into the habit of doing gesture drawing more often (even if it just from a movie I'm watching).

Quick Characters

These were some quicker characters that I did. I've been pretty busy, as usual.

Dr. Rhine is the most famous doctor in all of AV World. She has the abilities to cure any illness or injury, aside from death that is. She does not speak very often, and looks very distant. She keeps to herself most of the time, so she may look mean, but she is actually very nice and loves to help people.

Foggy is an interesting creature that enjoys going to bars every weekend with his good friend Topaz. He was an old friend of Pubby, but has changed a lot since they used to hang out as kids. He has the ability to shape shift, but is usually too lazy to use his abilities.

Interesting Characters

I had a lot of fun with these two characters. Their designs already existed, but I never did a full finished piece of either of them until now. So it was a lot of fun to really see how they look in full color and rendered out. I think these are some of the better ones I've done in awhile.

Mar is a very kind girl who is very outgoing and always seems to be happy. She likes to save in video games, which explains why she dubs herself with the nickname "Save." She doesn't talk all that much to anyone besides her close circle of friends though, in fear of being bullied. She has a crush on both Ralphie and Gojo, but has never actually told anyone about it, even though it is well too obvious to all of The Nays.

Streeka is an angry boy who loves the thrill of battle. He will do whatever he can to engage in a fight with his enemies, especially those who oppose the Tano clan. He is very faithful to the Tanos and will do everything in his power to abide by their laws. He often causes trouble, but because he is very powerful, only World Leaders are able to stand up to him to stop him, most of the time. He has even been taken prisoner in Frank Lady World due to some of his aggressive tenancies.

Posed Characters

I've been neglecting really thinking about the poses of my characters overall, but this time I decided to at least add in an object for Pigger to interact with. I'm hoping to remember to do this more in the future, because it really helps with posing and makes them more interesting.

Pigger is very overprotective of the orphans and will always be guarding them and deciding what they can and cannot view. He acts as a very strong parent figure to the orphans and always knows their whereabouts. He used to be a very silly and carefree young man, but over the years he has come to be very strict and stern, but still very caring and gentle towards the orphans. He also has a love for clam chowder, as he is pictured eating it.

Oketsu is a fairly serious man who was the first to split off from the first generation Nays. He is the father of Gashil and the "Chozu and Scott" of the first generation Nays. He was the first to die of the group, mostly because of his mean attitude towards a bunch of them. He always makes fun of people and enjoys hurting others to make himself feel better. He is definitely one of the meaner Nays, but he was somehow seen as one of the most popular ones.

Catching up on Posting

I've been super busy with classes and preparing for a job fair coming up this Friday, so I haven't had the chance to really post the stuff I've been working on. I have been doing my daily characters when I can, only missing a few days. So look forward to those being posted.

Sonia is the woman in charge of PSChat, a lounge area of Party Sanctuary World in one of the large office buildings outside the Party Place. Sonia is very friendly and knows the regulars to PSChat very well.

Mero is the leader of the hot springs in Tag World. She is usually very peaceful and friendly, but when she is angry, she is one to be feared. She also sticks very close to schedules, and will be angered if anyone tries to mess with them.

Staggering

It's been getting a bit more difficult to keep up with homework and the daily characters, but I think that if I can charge through and keep pulling out these character drawings, it will in turn make my class work a lot better. These usually serve as an hour or two of warm-up drawings a day for me, so overall even if it feels like they're making me procrastinate, they really are in turn helping me a lot.

Fuzzy is a sheep who has a very know-it-all personality. Her favorite activity is cheating, and he enjoys pretending to be someone who she isn't. Fuzzy has a major crush on Cimc and will do whatever she can to win him over. She has always been one of the clowns of the liars, and is one of the least liked out of their group.

Briaz is a laid-back man who can travel through dimensions. After his head was chopped off, he has gained the ability to remove his head from his body whenever he wishes. He is a very impatient man and he is always trying to do everything as quickly as possible.

Animal Characters

I've been creating some different animal characters. I feel like on these two, my sense of color and shading improved a bit from the recent few I've done. I had a lot of fun being expressive with their personalities as well.

Wiggy Cat is a very strange cat who overuses the word "wiggy." He somehow became friends with Biggert City's Big Kid Club and is a follower of Lupita. He feels like he is very cool, though not many people would agree. He is always smiling and fairly happy.

Claude is Coyote's pet dog who is pretty tough. He is very spoiled and only eats high-class meat... and vegetables. Taking after Coyote, he loves vegetables, but prefers them to be stir fried.

Layout & Timing Progress

I've been working not only on my thesis this semester, but also on my Layout & Timing class. It has been a lot of fun, and very challenging so far. I haven't done storyboarding too much, so this has been a fun challenge for myself to start learning more about it and forcing myself to finally improve with perspective. I've boarded out 28 scenes, along with redoing them, so far, but I am in the process of narrowing them down closer to an 18 count.

Here's a preview of some of my shots. I'll get around to posting all of them once they're more refined though, eventually. Or I may just wait until the end to post the full animatic, we'll see!

Dynamic Characters

Lately I've been trying to think more dynamic with these character designs and slightly the poses. Dark Dragon's pose was a bit different for me and actually surprisingly the parts I thought would be hardest to execute ended up being the most successful parts of the piece.

Drowzwadd is a very strange creature that is TGWTLT's pet who has very strange habits. He claims to be the leader of the "Super Hero Club" in Biggert City, filled with a bunch of outcasts. He enjoys hopping around and often makes obscene jokes.

Dark Dragon is a very ruthless Higher Up Bird. Before he became a Higher Up Bird, he would often try to take control. Dark Dragon was always stronger than the Higher Up Birds, but his dark mood caused him him to not be eligible until Arctic and Pheno were gone. Dark Dragon hates children and is very amused by torturing them. He is very mean to just about everyone, and is always looking for a way to become the most powerful one in Tag World. No one will mess with Dark Dragon, or he will very likely pick a merciless fight with them.

Hands and Feet at Weeklies

We did some hands and feet sketches during Weeklies this past meeting. It was really difficult at first, but I think I started to enjoy it a little more by the end.

Contrasting Characters

Just noticed these two's colors and shapes contrast each other quite a bit, so that was a coincidence that they were one day apart in birthdays.

Skine has a strong connection to his small group of childhood friends and will do anything he can to help them out. Growing up in a tribe of medics, he has the ability to aid them in healing. Skine has a carefree personality and likes to joke around with his close friends. He is very polite to people that he does not know, and is all-around a friendly person.

The Guy Who Talks Like This' Rival, commonly known as TGWTLT's Rival, is a very random man. He is always competing to be the best World Leader, and longs for The Nays to favor him. TGWTLT's Rival does events similar to TGWTLT, but he tries to spice them up and make his events more favorable and fun. He enjoys doing events at night time and loves anything frightening. When The Nays never go to his World, he gets very angry and rounds up all of The Nays who are not main, and has them side with him to cause an uprising.

Different Characters

These characters were a little different from what I'm used to drawing, so it was pretty fun. I had some trouble coming up with in-depth personalities of them though because they aren't very main.

Guh is a very outgoing griffin who likes to have order and control. He tries to be serious, but no one actually takes him seriously most of the time.

Seether is the middle child of his family who is quick to anger. He is very active and always eager to work out.

Keeping up with Characters

It's been awhile since I posted my character-a-day drawings, but I've been doing them! I've just been super busy with classes that it's been hard to keep up on my blog.

Shaw is the son of the an extremely wealthy couple. He is also a very natural-born leader who is very popular. Add that to the fact that he is one of the strongest Nays, and Shaw has quite the ego. He is usually fairly serious which causes Gair and JrTr to enjoy joking around with him. He has a very sarcastic sense of humor, and has no problem making threats to his enemies.

Haca is a political activist who feels very strongly about demon rights. She is willing to go to extreme lengths to fight for her cause.

Animals and Gifs

This week at the ASC, we did some animal gestures and made gifs, so it was a nice relaxing meeting.
