Crunch Time!

So my schedule's getting super busy and next week is when A LOT is due. And in regards to Animation III, we are focusing primarily on getting everything for our short in the next month. I'm planning on finishing all of the rough animation for mine within the next few weeks so that I can start on clean-up.

This is a short clip of Mikey creeping out from behind a cauldron. I haven't gotten feedback on it yet, and I still am not satisfied with it.

Lots and Lots of Wolves

I've been working a lot with trying to figure out my character designs fully for my class. This week is a bigger week where deadlines are super important for this class, so I made sure to catch up and have more done.

Animatic that I created for the scene that I am working with this week.

The design I decided to stick with for Armon, until I have time to play around with re-designing him more. I got a lot of help from Jinny.

A bunch of variations on my character Armon, still not any finalized designs.

Some various wolf character concepts.

Wolf gestures I did from videos taken at the zoo.

And here are some re-design ideas for Lilith. I still have yet to find the right direction I should go in.

Colored Pencil!

I re-discovered Colored Pencil this week and remembered how much I enjoy using them. I also found my old col-erase pencil, which is probably one of my favorite things to draw with now.

Some value studies I did of my friends, Jinny, Hillary, and Emma. These are value studies I did for my final in Portrait Drawing.

We made character designs at the Weeklies this week, based off of candy.

Doodles I did, still trying to stylize wolf/dog-like characters. It's been extremely hard for me, but I will get these finished by Tuesday.

Some gestures I did at the ASC this week.

We used colored pencil this week in portrait drawing. I enjoyed it more, but I ran out of time towards the end and had to rush it a bit.

Thought Process Animation

So this week we animated basically all week. I started out with a different animation, but with some help from my instructor, I figured out how to fix a bunch of the original errors. So this is what I have so far!

We were supposed to involve a thought process and then a reaction in our animation, so here it is!

Breaking CDs

For my Portrait Drawing class, we had to do a self portrait of ourselves using a non-traditional medium. So I chose to break up CDs and arrange them to show the values and shapes to make up: myself!

Here's the final product!

First my friend Jinny took a photo of me to use as a reference.

Then I traced over the image to figure out the basic frame.

Then I started out with a drawing from using the reference image.

Next up I started laying out the CDs.

I rearranged the CDs so that they would fit the shapes better and so that they only cover what is in the shadows. These are a few close ups and different angles.

And again, the final product!

...And not to mention there were a few minor injuries in the making of the project. They healed shortly after though, so all is okay!

Internship Fair!

So yesterday was the internship fair, meaning that I prepared a lot of the week! So I haven't done much outside of improving my resume, making contact sheets, and updating my portfolio. You can check out my updated portfolio here! This is basically an update from the entire week though, since it's been awhile since I posted besides my Animation 3 post.

It took a lot of drafts and input from others to decide, but this is what I decided to go with for my contact sheets.

Some sketches done at the zoo.

First week using conte, and it's quite a challenge for me!

Doodles I did during class. Trying to figure out how to re-design Cimc, but it wasn't working too well.

Gestures I did at the ASC this week.

Fun with Characters

This week we mostly focused on finishing up the roughs for our animations. But today in class we made up some characters as a class, based off of photos from shorpy.com.

This is what I have for my animation. We worked with facial animations more for this assignment.

And these were the characters we came up with.

Pokemon X!

It's been a super fun weekend!  As you'll see in my sketch journal pages, a lot went on this weekend. There was a lot of fun stuff I did with friends, but not exactly that much art. Luckily a lot of my homework was done before Friday night. But a lot happened on Saturday that I only actually picked 1-2 things to draw for the sketch journal. A bunch of my friends came over to our room and we had a Pokemon party. My friend Emma spent the night too, so that was a lot of fun!

Sketches done at Weeklies this week. Jinny taught us about construction.

Some studies of the ear and portraits in general that I drew during the Animation Collective meeting.

Sketch Journal Pages
My first digital ones, and I kind of rushed them, so hopefully I'll take my time on these at least a little bit sometime.

Rough Week

It's been kind of a rough past few days for me. Mostly just personal problems, but I've been keeping up on my work at least!

Worked with charcoal this week in Portrait Drawing.

Some sketches done at the zoo this week.

Sketch Journal Pages
Just finished my sketch journal! I'm thinking about doing digital sketches from now on. Probably only spending about a minute on each. At least this way you'll be able to tell what's happening and not have to look at my terrible quality scans. Sorry about that, my scanner's been acting weird with these pages for some reason.

Facial Animation

We've been working a lot with facial animation and emotions this week in Animation III.

Here's the animation I've been working on!

And we did some gestures from Charlie Chaplin today in class.

Various Sketches

This week I've been trying to get ahead in doing my LA homework that is due next week. Since this weekend I have a lot of plans for fun things with my friends, I don't want all of that LA homework to get in the way. On another note, I've been meeting with a bunch of my professors this week and finding out things to improve on, so I will be trying out a lot of new things and trying to make portfolio pieces hopefully in the weeks  to come.

Doodle done of Zandra, since I realized I really need to start drawing more stuff not for class.

Some little sketches I did of my characters in my free time. I've realized how much I really enjoy drawing my brother's character Firebreath (he's the dragon one).

We started using charcoal in my portrait drawing class this week. It is fairly difficult for me.

Sketches done at the zoo of the aquarium animals.
